  1. Sooo, with DD being off the road for over a year, Poppy took up the daily duties. She'd been doing well tbh, have put a fair few miles on her in that time, mostly trouble free.

Gayles Nissan Juke (aka "Effy") failed its recent mot and landed us with a bit of a big bill (just under £500) and was off the road until garage got her fixed. So Poppy was our only car on the road, so Gayle had been using her for around a week for work. The day before we were due to get Effy back, Gayle went to go to work in the morning and put the clutch down in Poppy. Heard this really horrible noise so thought that's not good! Gears were stiff to engage, so I drove her to the end of our drive to see if she would be safe to go to work in. Sadly not! Clutch has totally failed! Press the clutch down and she sounds like a bag of spanners! 🫣 Can't get any gears with the engine running so looks like clutch has finally let go. Called our Independent MINI specialist and got a quote....£1200! Gutted, but tbf, have seen the amount of work involved in replacing it so most of the cost is labour. So Poppy's off the road for a while now till I can get the money saved up. Good job Effy is now passed her MOT (and now sold! Gayle traded her in for a newish Nissan Micra 2020 as she needs something cheaper on fuel for all the driving she does at work). Also good that DD has also passed her mot and is back on the road! So Poppy can take a breather for a while. Will update once new clutch has been fitted.

  2. And she's done it!! Finally got DD back on the road, passed her MOT on Wednesday with just an advisory on the n/s/f track rod end but knew about it before hand so going to get it replaced. So happy to be driving her again, been sooo long! Not got a photo as been constant rain here but here's a recent one for prosperity! Oh, roof rack is now off and her sunroof deflector is back on😃dd-in-garage.jpg

  3. Wow! That's a whole load of nice parts and work right there! Regarding the blow in the exhaust, the join either side of the CAT would be the first place to check imo. Could be the flanges are a bit crusty, so unless they gave it a good clean up first would most likely start blowing there. If you can get it jacked up high enough, could hold a small piece of newspaper at the joins and see if it "flutters" when it's running. Was the manifold already fitted prior to the rest of the exhaust or did they fit that at same time? Looking forward to the pics mate!

It is bud, whole unit... When you change the temperature etc it pops up on the display. Pretty cool really 😎

That's well smart! And a bargain too!

  5. Was that the whole thing including the buttons for heater controls etc? Sounds like the bargain of the century mate! Get what you mean about wanting something like that in the deck. I'm still weighing up options!

Little update, had to recommission the deck as the accord has decided to shat its power steering fluid so over the shop, do pumped the tyres up, stuck a new yuasa battery in, and off we go 😎

    Love this car 🥰

Damn, making me jealous (not the power steering fluid obviously lol gettingvto drive the deck!). How's Tubs feeling, been a while since she's been out and about eh?

  7. Sooo, the pics of what I've been dealing with with our daughters car.

    First the damage

And finished it yesterday! This was just before the alloys with 4 brand new tyres went on. Been a lot of work but after least she's got her car back. IMG-20240311-WA0001.jpg

DD now comfortably back in her crib until I get the MOT booked!

  8. In other news, DD on a back burner as got our daughters car to repair after she skidded on snow and straight into a ditch! Never ending for me with cars at the moment but at least she's OK, no injuries. Could have been so much worse if a car had been coming the other way or if the fence it ended up had gave way....would have barrel rolled down a hill!😲

Car looking sorry for itself. Will maybe post some pics up of the before and after. Have had to cut off old wing, straighten out the bracketry it and the headlight bolts to, replace front wing, bumper and headlight. Repair (and work out what wires were what) the wiring for the headlight, front fogs and DRLs, then paint. Fixed a few other dents on the side and replaced the drivers door mirror. Been a lot to do, but on the home stretch now.

That's ridiculous picking up stuff like that when things are in good order.. You could almost understand it if they were trying to sell you work, but to them say they wouldn't do it! 🤦

It's such a lottery getting garages to do jobs on your car... Good ones are like gold dust.

Hope your foot gets better soon mate..

Yes, that's the one thing we've noticed since moving to the borders. Garages here suck!

  10. sooooo, the MOT didn't go entirely to plan! Garage failed her on the track rod end (so least I know what the noise was now and was expecting that anyways) but the bastids also failed on what they classed as a major fault! Effing exhaust heat shield???? They even put "dangerous, do not drive. Risk of fire!" on the mot. Apparently its the one round the fuel tank.....only its still there! There looks to be probably about 4 inches of shield that has rusted away if anything, but it has probably been like that for years.Didnt even get as much as an advisory before so was pretty pissed off with the tester tbh. Also failed on binding front caliper n/s/f and handbrake didn't meet requirements.

Then there was the advisories.........brake discs worn pitted or scored! The rears are brand bloody new, and the fronts are in decent shape! Honestly went apeshit at the garage as they wouldn't even entertain fixing anything they'd failed it on!

Took her straight to another wee independant garage to see if they could book her in, and the guy (who was into his cars) looked at the fail slip and laughed. Said they wouldn't have failed it on the heat shield, and as for the discs, he agreed there was nothing wrong with them.

So she's been sitting in the garage since November as I was so pee'd off with it all. It wasn't a huge list of fails, just some of the things they'd failed/advised on thats now stuck on her mot history forever. Anyhoo, decided I need to get my finger out and do something about it. So, brand new caliper on the front along with new pads. Handbrake I thought was just a quick adjust (uh-uh, wrong!). The handbrake cable where the adjuster is at the handbrake was squint, drivers side all pulled up and pass side hardly any. So siezed rear caliper then. Turned out, the garage I had used to fit the rear discs when I couldnt get the caliper/carrier braacket bolts out had reused the same chewed up bolts. Again, effing raging, because when I finally got them out, the sliders were seized solid as they'd fired it all back together without even any grease on the sliders! Effing cowboys! So new slider kit and replaced the bolts with new, job done. Then got a bit of heatshield that I had lying about and cut it to shape size and fitted it. I then drilled new holes to attach the n/s/r abs sensor cable back onto the car as I'd put it on temp with cable ties while I serched for the previous abs fault. So thats ll looking nice and secure now.

Just need to book her into another garage for an mot now and get them to do the track rod end. Would do it this week but I've had a slight accident in the garage! Faith had an accident with her new (to her) 2015 Toyota Aygo, so Ive got to replace the front bumper, o/s/f wing, o/s/f headlight, fog light, drl etc. Started on it last night and got the mangled wing off, then was at the workbench showing Faith (she was helping me) how to get a stuck bolt out of a socket. Turned to her to get the bolt, and she screamed! What I didnt see was the bloody vice falling off the workbench! And landed right on my foot!!! Still in agony, toes are swollen to around twice their normal size, masive bruising etc. gayle thinks Its probably broken my toes but I aint going to sit in A+E for 6 hours to be told they cant do anything. So painkillers it is until it heals. Out of action for working on cars/driving for now.:(
