Lol deffo a first mate!! Mind you, you know how mad trying to fix cars can make you, reckon trying to fix that will make you go loco!
Think the last time we spoke on the phone you'd only just got a share in the train, so nice one for getting it completely.
Good to see the CRV has been avoiding other dopey drivers too, looking good mate.
Need to catch up soon. Oh, and need to come down and see this train sometime soon!
Mind, if you're up this way in the van feel free to pop in for a coffee bud. Always welcome.
Cheers Dave! It's been a bit of a whirlwind year, loco, hgv tests, and it's already August.
Crv isn't doing many miles as I'm doing week on week off on call. I think it'll be around October/November I'll be back up to glencoe as that's when the bridge that we took up is due to come out. I'll see closer to the time.
Loco is a proper on the back burner, probably mid 2020 before I can properly get on it.

Part 3!
New project!
Earlier this year I was offered the opportunity to fully buy an item that I used to part own.
And I don't think anything of its type has ever featured on this forum....
It's a locomotive... yes a train...
Built in 1957, works number 2654 she was used for most of its life at Pilkington glass, st Helens. And she is called Doncaster.... yes Doncaster.
It's a back burner project, as it needs shed space to be worked on.
The spec.
Roll-royce C6T. 6 cylinder, 12ltr non intercooled turbo diesel producing around 200hp and 800nm of torque.
Top speed is around 20mph. It's a shunting loco. Designed to move heavy weights at low speed.
Plans, reassemble, full rewire, refit all Windows, commission a vac brake system, and repaint...
And eventually get her to a railway where it'll be used and looked after.
So yeah... a train.... I never thought I'd start a project thread on a train on a car forum....

Part 2
Anyway the car, it's still alive, and has still got all 4 wheels attached to it!
Have had a couple of small issues with it, but nothing I can't sort.
The alternator bearings decided to go noisy, common fault, the n22a engines auxiliary belt routing puts a lot of strain on the alternator bearings.
Put a new alternator on, replaced the tentioner pulley bearing and fitted the new shorter belt, and also dropped the oil and filter while I was there.
Also found the pipe that runs between the air box and turbo had split...
Upside, the turbo noise is cool as f**k...
Down side... unfiltered air entering the intake....
A used pipe is like unicorn poop.... New one from Honda was about £65quid...
Next up is mot time!

Part 1.
Well.. time for a bit of a general update,
Let's see... still work for DFDS, it's given the me the opportunity to travel the lenght and breadth of the UK, and see some amazing sights, like Glencoe,
And the not so amazing sights like the industrial centre of Liverpool....
Sorry to anyone in Liverpool, you can't quite beat the beauty of Scotland....
Let's see... I've also passed my HGV driving tests!
Been out and about with it. Had some interesting times with it, taking an artic into the centre of Salford isn't my kinda idea of fun!
End of part 1

Looks good in that colour mate. Let's hope no dumbass drives into this one!
I saw it. And fell in love with the colour, it's got a purple hue to it in the sun light. And same here!
On 10/8/2018 at 6:48 PM, Dave said:She looks tidy mate, hopefully you'll have more luck with it being a different colour this time. I see it has the sill bars/steps too, or did they all have them?
Cheers Dave! The sill bars were an optional extra. The last 2 had them fitted. Pretty rare to find. 2nd hand.

Been car shopping. Bought another one.
A 2006, 2.2CDTI 6spd manual, in executive trim.
That means
Cruse control.
Sat nav, and it still works well!
Heated leather seats,
8disk changer under the passenger seat,
Power fold mirrors
It's also got
Its got a full set of water proof mats through out. They were about 200 quid!
Towbar with twin electrics.
Chrome side bars
Its got the odd stone chip and scuff but it's done 107k so it's stuff i can deal with.
Its also just had for the mot, rear disks and pads, caliper, and rear shock absorber.
My list has a few bits on it.
Tyres, the ones on it have life in them, but, don't inspire confidence in the wet..
Mirrors, the mechanism is slow, and one casing is cracked. I suspect the fold function hasn't been used in a while.
Fit an aux/Bluetooth adaptor. Ditch the CD changer. See about updating the Sat nav
Need to add a gear stick extension as it's to low for my liking.

Bloody hell mate! Glad you're ok as that could have been so much worse. Unbelievable you walked away from that, looks severe to say the least.
As for the Muppet that caused it, what the hell was he thinking? Solid white lines are there for a reason! And on the brow of a hill, where he can't see what's coming! Should be done for dangerous driving at the very least.
Sad to see the CRV like that mate, know from when you came up here with it it was a mint one. As said, it did well to protect you, and you're right, being in the civic would have had a worse outcome. It's lucky (if ant crash can be called lucky) that he didn't hit you head on going by the damage he's caused there, as it doesn't bear thinking about what the outcome of that would have been. Get yourself checked out fully mate, and any injuries sue the a*s off him. Idiots like that need removed from the road permanently.
Out of interest, what car was he driving?
Hope you find a new car soon.
I can't say too much, as the police are still involved, but the car they were attempting to overtake didn't stop.....
She, was driving a similar aged Vauxhall vectra.
After going back to the car to collect my stuff, I did have a closer look, and we reckon another inch overlap and it would of been a very different story.

Holy crap mate! Glad you're okay.
That's one broken CRV! It's done you proud keeping you safe like that.
What's next? Are you fancying another?
Cheers!
At the moment there's nothing else out there I fancy/like the look of. So yeah. I've got my eye on a couple of diesel Manuals but I'll go from there once I've got money to spend.

So... this seems all to familiar....
Some people who are on Facebook may of seen this already...
Guess who's had his CR-V written off?
Yeah that's me...
Was driving back from Lincoln on Saturday night. Was minding my own business when a car travelling in the opposite direction attempted to overtake a vehicle... on a solid white line on a brow of a blind hill....
That's the result. Yeah... that ain't going on the road again...
As for me? I'm completely ok. Various muscle pain and I think some nerve pain (gonna get that checked out tommorow)
Yeah... I'm not kidding. I walked away and was cleared to go home by the ambulance crew.
Oh... the missing wheel was 25mtrs behind the car.
I'd think it be a very different story if it was the civic...
Certainly built well.
Yeah, that's half a wheel and brake disk missing. Ripped the shockers in half.
So yeah... so this has met a particular grizzly end.

Service, valve clearances, sump, and brakes up front.
-
So, yeah, forgot about this....
So it's been nearly a year since I picked up the crv. So its MOT time.
And it failed.
NSR drop link detached.
So got two new ones fitted as the other had play in the ball joint.
Apart from that it's been a good motor to have. My front auxiliary lamps stopped working last weekend, that was down to a rotten relay.
It's now got another relay and separate fuse fitted.
That's about it. It's now got a fresh mot and it covered 17,000miles between tests. So yeah it doesn't get used during the week. But gets used a fair bit at the weekends.
Next on the list are N
Brakes, service, and a sump as mine is corroded.

Finally got around to sorting the electrics on the towbar, new socket wiring etc, and it worked first time aswell!
So I played pretend trucker for the morning on Saturday, did ok, pulled better than I expected, the gearbox didn't hunt like I was expecting it to do.
And as for today, I was working on this.
A Thomas hill type 1 loco, only one of its type left, it had a water leak on the main water pipe on the heads, which require the water pump to be removed (bloody heavy as well!) was a bit of a rush job as it's required for film work next week..

Was ages ago when i did mine... Think it was a European sports car horn or something like that.
Pretty sure that I just had to snip the old one off and used crimp connectors to fit the new one.
I guess that any horn would work?
@philgor had a different horn as well.. He might remember more than me.
Yeah... I miss those horns!
I had a set of ring airhorns... They were epic fun! Untill they filled up with water japfest 2014.... Much to the amusement of everyone!

Well after 3 months of it kicking around in the car, home, work (delete as appropriate) I finally got around to fitting the towbar.
Wasn't looking forward to the drilling of 16 holes in to the chassis rails. But fortunately they had left dimples in the rails to guide drilling.
Thule / brink detachable tow bar.
Had to remove, the boot floor / table, spare wheel liner, side plastics and you can just see the dimples for drilling out to 20mm in the boot and 10mm in the bottom of the chassis.
Done! It's also bolted to the rear towing eye.
Just need to sort the electrics out, but that's a 5 minute job as it's all plug and play.

Couple of years ago, my distributor died in my mb1, and used these folks to source a replacement.

Been caught cleaning it! And Alex polishing krzys headlights. Couldn't believe the difference!
Simply Japanese was a bloody good show, I got sun burnt quite nicely!
Covered 670 miles, and it's really comfy to drive, decent fuel consumption as well. Just over 30mpg.
Oh, also spotted an old friend at simply Japanese aswell!
The new owner has got some big plans for her, he also saved her from the cutters torch quite literally.
