  7. Hello everyone, I see this pic today on FB and I'm crazy looking for this white rear lights, any know where I can find? Or maybe is a diy mod?
  8. What is the your favourite mod that you've done to your Civic? Lets see your mods, post a photo of the mod too!
  9. So, been a bit down lately due to pressures/hassles at work and been a grumpy old git to say the least. Gayle reckoned what i needed was another project! I've wanted a MK1 MX5 since the day they were launched (was at the car show in Glasgow SECC when they unveiled it) and when the cover came off and I saw this sweet little red sports car I fell in love! Said there and then I have to have one of these one day, but I was a teenager back then with empty pockets! Roll on 29 years later and now I'm older (still with empty pockets, least i am after buying her!) and finally I've got one!! Always wanted a mk1, but did put deposit down on a mk2 in a garage around 7 years ago. Sadly my then wife (Dawn) became seriously ill so we cancelled going down to test it/buy it and just forgot about getting an MX5. Lost Dawn to cancer 3 years later Original plan was to buy one that needed a full restoration, but as i don't possess any welding skills that plan changed. After a lot of good advice from members in here, we upped our budget and went to view a few more cars. Most were bodged repairs and nothing like described, until we found this one in Stirling, Scotland. She's red (obviously), 1.6 UK car with 90K on the clock. 10 months MOT. There isn't a service history book, but all the old mots are there and receipts for various work done. The chap selling her didn't want to let her go, but was under instruction from his wife to buy a more family friendly classic car! She has had the rear sills done before, drivers side is a tidy enough job and solid (just the black paint that's not right), passenger side is still solid but repair is showing signs of rust. Engine wise, she's great! Engine sounds sweet, and pulls well in every gear. Suspension wise, she needs an overhall. Interior is basic but (now) clean and tidy. Hood is shot, but Gayle went straight onto ebay and found a brand new hood that the seller has had lying around for a couple of years for £120! result! She bought it, then we had another road trip to Aberdeen to go collect it. Hood is mint and getting fitted this weekend! I have noticed when at speeds of 70mph upwards, she has a horrible vibration which is coming from the front. It shakes through the car, and if at lower speeds (60mph) we go over any bumps in road, it shakes up through the steering wheel which deffo isn't right. Unfortunately during the test drive there were no roads we could get her up to anything over 30 - 40mph so this only came to light on the way home. But hopefully the work i'm planning should resolve these issues. So Plans are: Fit the new hood Replace all 4 shocks and springs Replace upper/lower wishbones (they look ok, just grubby, but I want to replace all bushes so might aswell just change the whole lot.) Replace wheels/tyres with dished BBS rims Full service including timing belt/fan belt etc. New front and rear brakes (rears have just had brand new calipers fitted) Full custom interior retrim in either full leather or half leather/alcantara Full respray, looking to go for a nice metal flake red! Will also be taking it to BorderMX5 before the paint to have both rear sills repaired professionally/correctly. Think we should be able to get through the next mot with them but not chancing it any longer than that. Engine and engine bay fully detailed. Accessories, such as chrome/stainless steel boot rack, new stereo (just replaced the one that was there for a Pioneer that I had lying around in the garage). Will be a long term project, but want to fully replace as much as we can as we go along for brand new/renovated parts. End goal is to have one very mint mk1 MX5. After cleaning her interior up to my standards, Gayle said "oh look, the suns out!" Which roughly translated means "time for a run in Mindy with the top down!" lol Got some pics when we were out. Totally love this wee car! She's not perfect, but she's ours and makes me happy! First ever convertible I've ever owned, and loving it! Don't worry though, DD isn't going anywhere! Just taking a break from her for a wee while as she needs MOT'd and a new front caliper. Plan is when I get the spraying gear all sorted out to respray the mx5 , I'll be doing DD's front end at the same time. So all's good!
  10. 12. Hi guys. Just a quick post to let you all know we have updated/upgraded the forum to to very latest version of IPB forum software. Unfortunately our current forum themes were not compatible with the new version, so we have put in place a basic one based on our Civic forum colours (red, grey and black). We'll be adding to it/changing things in time to be more like the previous themes look so bear with us. The upgrade had a lot of security patches and upgrades so again, keeping the forum nice and safe for all our members. The upgrade seems to have gone through problem free so fingers crossed. If however you do find any faults/things not working please let myself or one of the team know, or reply to this post. Stay safe, Dave and the Team
  13. So, weather was fair today so we decided to go for a run in Mindy our wee MX5. Went our usual run towards Innerlethen and the Yarrow valley, and out over the moors. At the end of the road there's this wee pub/hotel called the Gordon Arms Hotel in the middle of nowhere, so seeing as it was lunchtime anyways and we'd always said we'd love to try it out, we popped in for lunch. Had there Gordon arms burger, which was amazing!! Then we left the pub and normally would turn left back towards Yarrow/Selkirk/Galashiels, but decided to turn right and see where it took us. 5 mins from the Gordon arms, we turned right.............any of our long standing Civic5 Members recognise where this is? No? Ok......what about now? Getting warmer........ok, how about now Yup! St Marys Loch!! One of the best ever Civic5 meet venues! Thats the big carpark we normally take over (see pics below!) Happy times those! Can't believe we ended up at St Marys loch! We came in for the side the meet usually exits, so did the run backwards! When we first drove along the road (before we found the layby), I said to Gayle I'm sure I recognize this road! Then said, hang on! If theres a layby on the left round this corner, its the St Marys loch road! Sure enough, there it was. We decided to do the run backwards then cut off and head for home instead of heading to Dalkeith. Ended up in rain (yes, hood stayed down!) and then brightened up before eventually hitting torrential rain (too right, hood went up quick as hell! lmao ) So surprised to find that the run is litterally 25 mins from our front door! Used to take us ages to get there from the old house! We love where we live now!!!! Tis awesome! 14. Went into the office today for the first time since last March, and in the way in, found myself in traffic next to a parked FK8, and it dawned on me that they're very similar size wise to a Civic M. Just been checking out of interest, and these are the dimensions for the wheel track and wheel base. FK8 : Front/rear track 1,600/1,593mm Wheelbase 2,700 mm Mc2: Front/rear track 1,465/1,470mm Wheelbase 2,620 mm Now that would be a cool (and expensive) swap...with some flared arches of course.
  15. Hi guys. Been thinking lately that although our buyers guide is good, it might be kinda out of date now. The faults listed in it are still relevant, but as time goes on there are newer faults and problems arising with our Civics. Not surprising as the oldest Civic M's are now 26 years old! I did some work on DD today, had yet another leak into the interior when raining. The usual place, headlining at the top right corner of windscreen was wet. In the past, this has usually pointed to blocked sunroof drains, or the bonding around the windscreen had broken down/deterioated. Thanks to Alex (Chandler) excellent guide on removing the roof rails, and Simon (Dr Broon) mentioning earlier this week about seam sealer breaking down and letting water into the rear of his Aerodeck, I thought I'd investigate this on DD. I Removed the roof rails, and there was years of dirt/gunk under the roof rail mounts and also under the plastic roof drains. I cleaned all this out, then examined the area. Sure enough, a tiny little bit of seam sealer around where the front roof rail mounts to the car had gone. Tiny tiny bit, but seems enough to let water in. I've now sealed it all up and dried out the roof lining so will report back if this has resolved it. So this brings me to the guide. I think we could add in what members are now finding are failing on these Civics. We can add them to the list of what to check, but also create a list of preventative maintenance we can now do (like removing the roof rails on Aerodecks to check (still applies to hatchbacks too as they still have seam sealer under the plastic roof gutter drains.) and clean out/seal as necessary. There are other things to add too, like the small design flaw in the scuttle area which if blocked up nwith dirt crap, can allow water to go straight into the heater. I'll make this a sticky, so if you have any things you've had to do to your civic that isn't in the current buyers guide, list it in this topic. We've had 2 or 3 Civics/Aerodecks that have recently undergone full restorations, so if you want to list new areas of concerns for rust or anything else would be mucho appreciated. There aren't any other sites out there that have as much info on these cars, so lets keep the list updating as we go along. New things to add to list: Rust - a real common place is now under the drivers/passenger footwells on the seam. Rust - Lower sills which are covered by the sill protectors, and the outer/side which the covers clip into. Usually possible to get fingers underneath and round the covers to check. Also the wheel arches up from the sills of course! Sticky handbrakes. All bushes will all be really showing there age ARB drop links Bonding around windscreen (if original windscreen still fitted) can be breaking down causing leaks around top and bottom of screen The heater core. Check Passengers/Drivers footwell and remove the sill to check if its wet on the underside of the carpet. The heater core in this cars tend to fail and if the puncture is small you only notice if the carpet is lifted and see if it looks wet. Tell tail it's the heater core is the water will coolant so will have antifreeze colour/smell to it.
  16. Spotted around 5pm on the A7 heading towards Galashiels. Dark green Honda Civic MB, looked lowered, alloys, nice subtle exhaust, really clean looking! Anyone from here
  17. Hi guys. We have just purchased the 6 month renewal license for the forum software/platform and installed the latest update and patches. Everything installed successfully so should run as normal. If you do see any errors, please let us know. Civic5 Team
  18. Quite sad to see that ford is stopping making the mondeo soon. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56526468 The article says that it's in response to the massive increase in SUV / crossover demand. Follows the lead of others I suppose - including honda not selling the new model accord over here. I personally don't really get the whole SUV thing, and when I was cleaning the deck last weekend for the first time in a few years after it being away so long, I was struck by how small it seemed. When I first bought it in 2006 it seemed like a big car. That was coming from a Toyota carina (with the biggest boot ever) as my previous car, and the wife's car at the time was a pug 106. I've driven quite a few cross overs / SUVs as hire cars with work in the last few years, and none of them have really clicked. They are okay for motorway miles, but just don't engage me anywhere else. I'm always shocked at how such big cars can have such a small boot - especially when you compare them to the cavernous boot of the outgoing mondeo. Also, the whole SUV thing seems to be at odds with the drive for more environmental motoring - bigger, heavier, less aerodynamic.. Must impact on range / performance of electrification. I guess the only thing is it probably makes it easier to hide a load of batteries under the floor. Just feels like a shame that these type of cars have fallen out of fashion, so people can drive around up in the air, thinking that they're in a wide car, not just a tall car. No offence to anyone who drives an SUV, but personally, they're not for me.

  20. I've just seen these on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293660003362 According to the blurb, they're based on the eibach design, which presumably is the xpower ones that @weetec managed to get a set of years ago. Interestingly they say that they're no good for the other petrol ZS models as they're too light at the front, which ties in with what some have found with ZS springs in the past. The claimed drop is less than the aftermarket eibach springs for the vti. Thought I'd share anyway
  21. Was one of these, but in diamond white... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174647209615

    Front lights

Hey So I have owned my mb4 for over a year now and I was wondering if the Honda Accord front lights fit on the mb4. I would appreciate it if you could tell me what parts also fit on it. Thanks
  23. Just wondering if any of you still play Forza on Xbox1 and what version you play? Know Ali (burbleboy) is on F7 so going to be racing with him soon lol. Anybody else on F7 or F6? Might be time to start the old Civic5 race nights again seeing as we're all stuck indoors just now. They were awesome fun in the past, anyone up for it? Some photos from the last one we did back in 2012!
  24. As the title says, what's the best car you've owned and what was the worst! Include a photo if you have any, if not pinch one from the interweb of same car/model etc. If you're stuck between two that you consider your best, then you can have two! lol My best car: Ruby my Honda Civic MB6 Vti and DD, my Civic Aerodeck My worst......Vauxhall Astra mk2 2 door! Was an absolute pig of a car.....1.3 auto, gearbox packed in after 1 month, car was rotten from front to back (looked lovely, but rust had been hidden underneath the car so inner wings, floor, sills etc were basically just fibreglass and filler!
  25. How we doing all? Something a bit different to the usual chat this lol For the past year, I've been looking at getting both my own laptop and Mrs Chillax's laptop upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 ( I know, should have been done ages ago!! And me working in IT too!). Both laptops are getting on a bit now, but thing is, we both like them! They work fine, hers looking mint and mine looking a bit scratched and worn. Priced up similar spec laptops, and we'd be looking at around £700 each! Soooo, checked if our old ones could even run W10 and got differing info, some saying nope, some saying yes. Took the plunge and bought two W10 licenses at £80 each. But then In had a cunning plan! After much research, I worked out that my laptop could take an upgrade from HDD drive to SSD drive. New drive was only £30. Even better, I thought that it might be able to run two internal hard drives, so its old 600gb HDD could be reused for storage. Bought a carrier that replaces the disused CD/DVD drive and has the HDD fitted to it. Started working on both at around teatime yesterday, both running W10, all updates done, by about midnight. That includes fitting the new drive to mine and modifying it to take the 2nd drive. Difference in how both now run is amazing, much faster. but mine, with windows being installed on the SSD drive, is bloody amazingly fast! Boots up and is usable within 1 minute (because its got SSD, fastboot is enabled in BIOS), unlike before where it took around 2 to 3 mins to boot, then you had to wait till it all settled down before using it. Programs load really fast no lag when using loads of things at once, really really impressive. So if you are thinking of a new laptop, or even had thought about an SSD drive, do it! Its cost us £276 all in, that's for 2 windows 10 licenses, a new MS Office family edition, my new ssd drive and the carrier for it. Oh, plus 8 quid for a roll of red carbon look vinyl that I've wrapped mine with so it now looks brand new!! Hella lot cheaper than £1400 quid!
