I'm tempted to get another civic if a tidy example comes up either a hatch or another aerodeck. If anyone has anything please get in touch.

Closer to Manchester the better but I will travel for a decent car.

What are the 1.4s like? Found one I like but I'm waiting on more photos from the guy before I go and see it

The 90 bhp 1.4 models are acceptable power wise but try and avoid the lesser powered version....you'd get bored on the way to 60 mph.

Hope the car you're interested in turns out to be a goodun :)

Yes, the wee 1.4 is actually a screamer of an engine. My MA8 was a 1.4 auto, and even with the autobox it was a fun wee car. Good on fuel too. Only time you might see a difference is if it's full of passengers and going uphill, but other than that I loved my wee blue Betty! D-series engines I feel are more refined/smooth than the B-series, and infact smoother than any engine Honda has released since.

Bought that hatch. £250 with less than 70k on the clocks. Needs a couple of jobs for a mot but nothing major.

I saw that aerodeck too while browsing autotrader Gerry! Pretty nice condition, and being the ES full leather too.

What else did the ES have? This hatch I've just got is a ES and it's got some horrible cream leather in it

Should have the following as standard:

  • Leather interior (black or cream)
  • Top tinted windscreen
  • Headlamp washers
  • Wood trim to dash and centre console
  • Instrument panel dimmer switch
  • 4 x electric windows
  • Electric and heated door mirrors
  • Electric tilt/slide sunroof
  • Air conditioning
  • 14" (15" option) alloys
  • Either single shot Pioneer cd player or optional Pioneer cd multichanger in boot (Pioneer radio cassette in dash)(optional extra remote control for stereo on steering wheel)
  • Colour coded mirrors, door handles and bumpers
  • Front and rear mudflaps.
  • Slightly dark tinted windows in boot.(Aerodeck)
  • Carpet car mats.

Think that's the lot!

Oh yes, especially in DD's case!

ES actually stood for "Executive Sport" although to really confuse things, laterly the very last "ES"  Aerodecks and hatchs were badged as 1.6iES Executive Sport ( there being a tiny wee badge next to ES saying "executive sport". The 1.6SE was also similarly badged the same, only "Sport Executive"!

I remember being in our then local Honda dealership Chatham Honda and asking the sales guy about the model badging and what was what and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "buggered if we know!" Lol

And to add a final twist of confusion, I also saw a "1.6iES Sport Executive"

. Seems Honda just flung badges on them at the end just to get em shifted/use up what was left, pretty much standard for any car maker at a models end of life.

ES could also mean "Evo Slayer" boxing.gif1

That's an impressive spec. list from 20 years ago....cruise control would have been the icing on the cake.

Was indeed. I think you could get a retro fit cruise control but Honda never offered it. Deffo missed opportunity
