Dexter
Excellent topic, thanks! I'll be getting DOT 5.1 since i'm planning on hitting the track a couple of times this summer. The question is, should i change the fluid before or after my first track day? The current fluid (DOT 4) has been in the car for 2 years but only about 7000 miles. I checked it with a tester recently, and it showed all green, but i've also heard that they don't show the whole truth, since the fluid can be in poorer condition at the other end of the system. Any thoughts or recommendations?
oilman
HiIt's probably fine for a track session, but if you want to be sure, it is worth changing it before the track day.CheersTim
15vtec-e
My understanding is that time and not mileage is more important regarding the changing of brake fluid. Since manufacturers always err on the side of safety, and you say your fluid is only 2 years old, I would be tempted to change it after the first track day, and see if you notice any difference. If you have upgraded your suspension, brake pad material and engine then expect the fluid to work harder. But buy some expensive competition tyres (£100 a corner for 20 miles) and then the fluid will be realy tested Pete
