andrew1
Hi i need a bit of advice on my 98 1.4 SE MB2 , the idling is a bit erratic expecialy when cold it jumps between 7 and 4000 revs also it happens now and then when the engine is warmed up . I have googl'ed it but as usual various answers , the car has been serviced and all the belts have been changed about 4000 miles ago i noticed also it uses oil but not leaking anywhere and it's not smoking under acceleration but stinks of petrol if i accelerate hard , If i take the oil cap off while the engine is running it has what you could say (blow back ) is this normal ?? i read somewhere if this is the case then the rings are gone Please guys any help on these problems thanks
Steve-P13
I had a similar problem mine was reving all by itself between 1500 and 3500 revs, was a valve/control unit thing think its call the AIVC valve located under the throttle body. I took it off and cleaned with brake cleaner however this did not solve the problem, so got a second hand one from my local scrap yard and that solved it hope this helps.
