  1. I read a thread on the CTR owners forum about brake setups. A guy on there reckons that unless you're doing loads of track sessions the best setup would be the DS2500 pads all round, braided hoses and decent brake fluid, keeping the standard discs. Could be worth a punt as a cheap option to try before forking out on a 4-pot setup?

Yeah I have read about that too and it is a good setup but with the extra power i'm running it's at a point now where it needs better stopping power. The current setup is fine for most circumstances but when you really go for it the brakes fade very quickly, gets up to speed a lot quicker than a stock CTR now so when you do need to brake I find myself brake harder and earlier. A set of 4 points would massively improve that it's just a shame that most sets a very expensive. A lot of people go for the 330mm Big brake kits but to be honest that's overkill for most setups, retaining the 300mm discs will be the plan and finding a set of calipers that will clear the stock rims (although a 5mm-8mm spacer wouldn't be too bad)

  2. Yeah the height adjustability is what tempts me to go down that route but the discomfort and creaks/knocks are annoying at times, on the plus side the EP3/FN2 type r's are very harsh on the standard setup so switching to coilovers wouldn't be too drastic.

The next thing I need is a set of decent 4 pot brake calipers because mine is still on the standard brake setup just with DS2500 pads.

DC5 Brembo conversion would be nice or a set of Buddyclubs/Stoptechs.

  3. Reference the RRC intake manifold there is a place in the states called Endyn performance who specialise in manifold (intake) porting, here is a few pics of an RRC intake they worked on recently. This would be great with a ported K20 head

You would have to be careful with this though, you could easily blow the welds on the intake

  4.

As Krzys said mine isn't silly low but it is quite low (about 75mm at the front, 65mm at the rear) but if you have a look at Dave's (Boss Dave), his is on meister's too and only lowered by around an inch all round.

Thanks for the info Dave, much appreciated  yours sits lovely with that set-up

I can afford to go a little lower at the back but the front is already a problem with it just being 20mm lower than stock, that's due to having a 3" exhaust and low hanging exhaust header. Catches already on speed bumps etc so I can afford to go another 15-20mm on the rear but no lower on the front. I guess that's the beauty of coilovers though, gives you the option to fiddle with the ride height until you are satisfied with how it looks and drives.

I reckon I'd copy Dave's setup initially and adjust as I feel appropriate 8-)

It's a very good setup that but i'm very limited with how low I can go at the front

Nice ep Ben but I did see it in the flesh lol how's it going nice figures some good work gone in to :)

Cheers Dave  got to see your MB2 K26 beast in the flesh too (or metal) did you get that fueling issue sorted? I noticed on the TDI page you were there yesterday  225lbs ft of torque is unreal for a NA honda motor

Happy with mine but there are still a few tweaks to be made, tempted to swap out the RBC for an RRC with a 70mm throttle body next year, re-design the intake so there are no steps. Needs to be a good smooth flow to ensure it makes power at the top end. Also a set of Toda valve springs and a ported head with S2000 oil pump 8-) get it revving beyond 9K!

  5. Yeah my biggest downfall comes in the form of exhausts and intakes then complaining about the noise, I have an idea but will need to do some research on it before I go buying stuff, when I went to test the car I'll be fetching this weekend the pee-shooter exhaust just looked so sh1t

Yeah same here 8-) seems a good idea at the time until you hit a motorway and you just think to yourself "what have I done!"

Don't want to make the same mistake again this time round although it's all fun at the end of the day, 1 loud honda is enough for me

    What a beauty! Very nice

Thanks very much  appreciate it

  6. There's been many cars that I've said I'd leave alone and then didn't

The way I see it is you need to put at least a little stamp on them to say they're your own!

Haha  it is difficult, the Honda scene especially with so many tuning options & conversions available

I will be good this time though, I want the MB6 to be clean, comfortable and quiet so no exhausts or intakes this time round

I agree though you do have to put your'e own stamp on cars to make them stand out from the rest 8-)

  7. Very nice.

    Thanks

Yeah, it's like where I like there's loads of speed bumps and the roads are pretty terrible on a good day!

But I'm also not the biggest fan of scraping the car every time I go near the road.

Nick's VTi-S is on the above mentioned Meister's and says they're pretty comfortable without going silly low! Worth a look at if nothing else dude! :)

I'll be looking at a set for mine some time next year 8-)

Yeah that's exactly right, I live right in the sticks on farm lanes so the road surfaces are pretty poor to say the least, not to mention the mine field of pot holes that I have to avoid  the standard suspension setup was really crashy so after fitting the eibach springs it has improved slightly. I also changed the tyres from 205/45's to 215/45's which has improved the ride quality too.

I will definitely have a look at the Meisters and see what the feedback is like, I guess if i'm using the MB6 everyday I can afford to sacrifice a little comfort in the EP3  just hope I can leave the MB6 alone because I do have a habit of modifying everything ^_^

  8. Awesome spec list and very tastefully modified too.

As above, coilovers would be a good next job, I've recently gone from eibach springs on mgzs shocks to meister r's and the difference is amazing.

    Thanks mate, much appreciated

I think a good shock & spring setup would work well but I would have to invest in some bilsteins to get the most from it.

Coilovers would be nice but I have to be careful with the ride height because the 3" exhaust & PLM header sit very low, I haven't got much road clearance so I would have to be super careful with the ride height.

I think subtly is the key when it comes to modifying 8-)

  9. Looks like an awesome sleeper! Did the carbon syncro make a big difference to the feel?

Meister R coilovers would suit it well if the OEM shocks ever give up!

Awesome motor and set up though! 8-)

Cheers buddy, much appreciated  the syncro's feel like the OE ones to be honest, slightly stiffer when first fitted but after a few hundred miles they bed in nicely. It's strange you mention the shocks because the offside rear is on it's way out so I will be looking for something else to replace that next year. Coilovers would be nice but I had them on my old motor and i'm not sure if I could live with them again (must be getting old).

Ideal replacement would be a set of Bilstein B6 or B8 shocks but they are pricey.

Certainly goes well though and suprises a lot of boosted cars

  10. Hi Everyone,

I will be getting my hands on a Civc VTI MB6 in the next couple of weeks as my new daily motor (Just 52K miles) but in the mean time I thought I would show everyone what I currently use to get from A to B.

Owned this nearly 3 years now and bought it completely standard with just 28K miles, it's an early 2005 NHB EP3 Civic Type R. I bought it with the intention of just doing a few things but got a bit carried away (as we all do) but the modifications that are now on the car make it a completely different machine.

Lot's of bits have been changed in the last 12 months including exhausts, manifolds & intakes but everything has been done for the better and it's now the ideal track car or B-road hooligan. Not something you want to be taking on a long motorway journey but to be honest that can be said about them in standard form.
