Yup, had this too. Cleaned it down and rust treated it with crust then primed and painted with Touch up. Not perfect but hopefully it stopped serious rot.

Cool, thats what I was thinking. I took the rails off mine and stripped and polished them when the coating started to lift.
MB6 in question is a hatch then not a Deck? Me new so still learning the codes...

If matching the door cards is a concern, I stripped the patterned cloth off mine and blacked the panel out as they had got a bit loose in places. You'd never know they originally had cloth on them.

I'd give it a go with the Carbon Wrap as a first stop as already suggested. I did the interior trim, dash, gear console surround etc in my VTI Aerodeck, it was looking a bit scrappy and tired. The carbon wrap was about £5 a sheet on fleabay, took a couple of hrs and a hair dryer but looks great IMHO.
I ended up wrapping a few other bits that were worn / scratched.
Hear what you are saying ref removing the trim but I did it in situ approx 2 years back and it has been fine, no peely edges etc. I'll dig out a pic or 2.
