digitalfaze
Im planning some mods to my car, gsr head is going on along with a skunk 2 pro intake and a 68mm throttle body, will i need a map for this or can it be done with a vtec controller, properly tuned of course?only other mods i plan to do is a DC sports manifold and s/s exhaust, S80 box, lighter flywheel when clutch time comes. So will a vafc be sufficient or should i look to a different ecu? tontvti
V-AFC or the NEO adjust fueling and vtec point only, it will probably run anyway but the gsr cams are more aggressive and tuning the ignition timing will definately help.A piggyback like Greddy e-manage can do both fueling, ignition timing and vtec control or you can go for a OBD1 ecu which will do all 3 aswell.Paying for the hardware and mapping you're looking at £400 bare minimum really. OBD1 is probably cheaper since a chipped ECU typically costs less than the greddy. The cams in the GSR are set up for vtec switch over nearly 2000rpms after they switch in the B18c4 so the vtec controller can handle that, its just the ignition timing that might need tuning. digitalfaze
Thanks, could i ask is OBD1 using an ecu and something like chrome? i had a look at the greddy emanage and i quite like the look of it
tontvti
Yeah OBD1 they can burn a chip using Chrome, Ectune, etc.Thats probably the easiest since you can upload a stock GSR P72 tune and work from there. With a piggy back you'll be modifying the stock tune in the MB6 to try and get it to work right for you. digitalfaze
but using the obd1 method i would still have to have it dyno tuned due to having a diff throttle body and inlet so prices are going to be round about the same?using the emanage i could just have this tuned and it will do for whatever mods get done in the future? either way the prices are going to be roughly the same between obd1 & greddy?I just thought the vafc controlled air and fuel
tontvti
The VAFC can alter your fuel delivery by manipulating the MAP sensor readings which in turn controls your air/fuel ratios.Emanage costs from like £150 2nd hand to £350 new and you can get an OBD1 ecu from £100.Find a tuner first and see what they say. Cheapest reputable tuner I found last year was Gotboost tuning in Cardiff, £250 for a naturally aspirated dyno/street tune and £350 for a boosted one.Ideally all three options will be dyno and street tuned, you'd need a wide band O2 sensor at the very least to dial in fuel delivery anyway otherwise you're shooting in the dark.As I said before the GSR has more aggressive camshafts so you'd need the ignition timing adjusted for best results. I'd bet the car will run quite well anyway but it wont be at its best till its tuned.Google "H-Tune", i think the guy Scott is in Scotland. See if he can help you decide, he sockets obd1 ECU's and can supply base tunes. I'm guessing he can dyno/street tune aswell since he's familar with Ostrich emulators. digitalfaze
mmm i think i will get H-Tune to sort me with an p28 ecu when the time comes,As you say the GSR has a more aggressive cam then this is gonna be a decent mod for a b18c4? will i notice any sort of difference with the standard box?Didnt really think there was any difference between mb6 and gsr, just bought the head as it was cheap
