VTEC timing with nitrous - retard or not?

Been thinking about going turbo or nitrous for a while & pretty much settled on nitrous (will be following Burgerman's website DIY method). Only looking at a 50hp shot, but prob going up to 100hp (with additional PWM to choose any extra grunt up to this value) once I'm happy with the setup working. Question at the moment is regarding vtec: all advice says to retard timing for nitrous use, and although I've seen a fair few comments that suggest this is unecessary for a smallish shot, I'd guess a problem might arise with the advanced timing that kicks in with vtec? Anyone out there fitted a nitrous system to a B18C4 without altering timing?

a standard C4 retards the timing when vtec kicks in then advances it once the IABs are engaged, so on a c4 map the ignition curve dips between 4.5k and 6k, so you might not even need to retard the timing.
