  1. hey, james, is your's on rear disk's ?, if it is have you been told about the handbrake on the rear caliper's?

if you have, don't bother reading this, if you haven't, well read on.....

mx5 rear caliper's are not like any handbrake caliper's i have ever come across before, down to the adjustment of the hand brake....

you do not adjust the handbrake at the 1, the handbrake lever, 2 handbrake lever on the caliper, 3 the cables'....

right i'm assuming the rear of the vehicle is jacked up with the wheels' off. at the back of the caliper, there is a 12/14mm headed bolt that doesn't look like it's doing much, it's sort off in a direct line with the piston in the caliper. remove that bolt and then use a 4mm allen key to adjust the allen key till it nip up. now slacken it so the disk turn's freely, put the bolt back in, check the foot brake and hand brake, drop the wheel's back on and off the jack's and job done...

  2. are you on disks' on the back as well if so check them as well, it's the shim's that sit on the carrerier and the part of the pad that sit's on it, not the anti squeal shim's that sit on the back of the pad and sit between the pad and caliper

  3. hit 148k as i was going through cabourne, so celabrated with a 3rd gear pull in vtec as i climbed out of cabourne [smitten.gif][smitten.gif][smitten.gif][smitten.gif][smitten.gif]

When I have my first VTi I used to celebrate mileage milestones by trying to match the MPH to the first few digits of said mileage milestone, so on a motorway when for example the car hit 70k I'd do 70mph, though I had a private runway and the car was hitting similar mileages!

 thats quite a cool thing to do!

don't think the law would take that as a valid excuse...... so can you explain again why you were doing 148mph in a 60 zone......... [smash.gif]angrymod.gif1

edit, just seen james photo of this

    DSC00028.jpg

just clocked over 82000 mile's and he's near as damn it doing 82kmh......:lol::lol:

  4. talking to a landrover tech about one of these, and i mentioned that i knew some one who has one, he gave me some advice to pass on,

it's the same engine found in a disco3/range rover, tdv6 except that they only have 1 turbo on the o/s cylinder bank, no real issue with the engine apart from the turbo's that can stick, the actuator rod's don't have any grease on the piviot's, so if it get's driven by a granny all of the time, they can seize up, which is only found when floor it, and then find after that there is no go what so ever. this tech has had a go at the landrover bod's at HQ over this, small bit of grease at the factory can save you load's of money.

the cam belt's make sure that the front one is done on time as that drives' all of the camshaft's. the rear one is driven by a camshaft and drive's the fuel pump, the fuel pump is not timed on these so it can go on any poistion you want. so this belt it under very little strain what so ever, if it does go all that will happen is that the engine will cut out due to the loss of high pressure fuel.

the gearbox's are good, the auto is a 6spd ZF unit, and doesn't like having too muck more power put through it than from the factory, manual is a 6spd jag/landrover, and is also bullet proof, but you don't see many of them.

and one thing jag/land rover will never tell you, is the engine is french....... the engine is a PSA unit and is found in the big peugeot's and citroens'............

and he is also a star of a you tube vid over the turbo issue's because a 5am on one sunday morning, he was quite literaly chucking this knackered turbo around the workshop, and he was cursing every single person he could find to be responsable due to them not having a bit of grease on the piviot point.

he can also remove the body off the chassis off a range rover sport in less and 90minuites........

  5. had this on my old civic, i was on disk's all round, it turn out that some one had removed the thin metal shim's that fit between the pad and the carrier, so when ever i appled the front brake's in reverse, a clonk would happen.

  6. had the pleasure of doing a mot on one of these, and needed to be roadtested as well...... and jeasus it's quick and your right about the lack of diesel clatter....... i would swap my mc2 for one of these, i just don't want the bill for the 105000 mile service, all the filter's and both cambelt's........:shock: just over a grand for the main dealer to do it for you......... :o:o

  7. i remember my first post, and it seem's so long ago, and it was so long as well.............................

  8. the uk mot is a lot different to the irish nct, i don't know about the nct standereds', but i do know the standereds' required for a uk mot..

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s06000301.htm this and the next page and also this http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s06000304.htm and the next page are the standered's needed for an plate to pass the mot, no if's or but's it that only...

it doesn't say stick on plate's arn't aloud but they must meet the requirement's needed for the uk mot...

  9. one thing i came across today was the early honda cr-v, it's got a b20 in it, and a manual gearbox, would it be worth trying to find the ratio's out from them, as with them not being a sport's car, the probley would have longer gear ratios'......

  10. on the mb6/mc2 abs is a standerd fitment, so ant clued up tester, (like me lol) wiuld fail it with in a minuite of the test....

james, the abs lamp must follow a set sequence, if it doesn't it's a fail.....
