  1. Ok mate il see if I can get in and remove it. I take it I'd leave the red part on the black box and run a hose from it into a bottle? Really hoping it's the problem. Perhaps iv dislodged a lot of crap when cleaning it all out and it's been drawn through and dumped in te closets cylinders?
  2. I removed it and gave it a good old blast with some carb/intake cleaner. Wasn't sure if there was a way of testing it?
  3. Well the old guy is pointing towards the breather (pcv valve) does anyone know of a way to test them? Is it possible to disconnect it and try running it for a wee but to see?
  4. You thinking about relocating the battery and fusebox? Thought you had removed the ps? I do love a nice clean clutter free bay!
  5. People have suggested the rings wanting to speak with the older guy in the machining dept who comes back from holiday tomorrow. Not really a guarantee as it was my work that done it and it never cost me anything, well just the parts.
  6. Yes they had removed and reseated the valves along with new stem seals and 2 new valves. He pressure tested the rest and said try were fine. I brought a compression tester home tonight and got good compression on all cylinders, 180+psi.
  7. I'd have hoped he had as it's what they do everyday lol but no 1 and 2 are fine so kinda funny how 3 and 4 aren't. No4s probably worse and that cylinder was fine before head came off I can see I'm going to have to take it to bits again.
  8. Such an awesome build! Good to see a different engine being used apart from a b series, too work! Iv always liked te idea of doing a headlight loom wire tuck, did you have to extend many wires? Iv seen a guide for an ek civic where they didn't have to extend any, just re route them.
  9. Yeah head was torqued down. Stem seals were part of a kit so not oem but cylinders 1 and 2 are fine. Wondering if the guy messed up when putting the others on. Apart from that the cars running great and it's sitting at normal operating temp and not usin water just oil
  10. Whipped the plugs out and no3 and 4 are oily black, can also see oil on top of the pistons through the plug hole unsure about what's happened, going to speak with mechanics tomorrow and quiz the guy the done the head.
  11. Yeah it's like cookin oil, use it in our fiesta and I have to keep an eye on it cause it even uses oil too, as it's so thin. Maybe it's wishful thinking, just getting pretty fed up with it now tbh. Motor has 111k on it.
  12. Well she's still smoking I'm wondering if the 5 30 oil is too thin? I'm going to drain it and replace it with some 10w 40 unless anyone has a suggestion to any thicker stuff that's ok to use? I'd done a leak down test on the piston rings and they were all good, and that was when it was cold! Il borrow the compression tester tomorrow and whip the plugs out for a look. It's starting and driving/pulling great aswell.
  13. Looking great mate! Love the way your going with this.
  14. Yeah cooling system is fine now it was the cam timing that was out. Yeah was taking it easy, just went out a 20mile drive on the bypass at 70 but there's still smoke. Hoping it clears soon.
  15. Ok another update.... The timing was out managed to get it set and she's now running sweet! only problem is there's still smoke:( I'm hoping it's old oil left in the exhaust/inlet/head and will die down. I was supplied a thinner grade oil, 5w30 which I plan to change in a couple hundred miles for some slightly thicker 10w 40. It's not used any oil so far. Here's some pics of the whole car after fitting modded front forks.
  16. On a more positive note..... I did manage to fit my modified front forks measured the height from the deck to the centre of the hub before and after and it's dropped her 20mm. When I came out for work this morning I did notice the front sitting lower than before and looking a lot better. Pics to follow once I get it sorted.
  17. I'm now getting hot air through my heaters and all the pipes are hot, just still getting bubbles in the radiator. Il have a look again tonight. The temp gauge is sitting in the normal location and I haven't had the fan kick in yet. Was speaking with mechanics at work and try think I coul have maybe left a vac hose off or perhaps kinked one in the process of refitting the head. Was getting soaked last night so gave up checking but hoping I can get it resolved over the weekend.
  18. Well I'm still getting a lot of bubbles in the radiator took it for a wee spin and something's not right. I'm hoping it's the timing because it just seems to be holding back, the revs are also very low at idle and it feels like it will cut out once the revs come down. Anyone any ideas? Gonna see if I can find someone with a timing light tomorrow to double.
  19. Cheers pal! The front end is still jacked up ATM. I'm hoping that leaving it to settle then trying again might help.
  20. She's alive! Done my final check last night. Had to adjust some I the valve clearances. Went to start her and......the battery was dead stuck it on charge over night and fired it in as soon as I got in from work. She started on the button was a bit concerned with the smoke that came out the exhaust but this was obviously just some old oil left in the system. Once the smokescreen had cleared I let her idle and started trying to bleed te cooling system. There's still some air in it as the heater pipe aren't getting warm so I ended up switching it off whilst we get dinner and put my daughter to bed. Will be out again trying to get the system clear, an get the wheels back on. Hoping il be able to get out for a drive round the block to see if it's all ok. Will update later
  21. Thanks for being positive guys! Not going to get a chance to work on it tonight as iv got an exam I really need to revise for. Hard juggling work, college, family and car time. It will be completed this week though.
  22. Well managed to get the inlet cleaned and fitted tonight it was pretty black/oily so I'm hoping she should be running pretty good now. The idle control valve was also clogged up so gave that a good blast with the carb cleaner too. Double checked the pcv valve was moving after giving it a good clean up, and all is well. All that's left todo now is check valve clearances, fill with oil and coolant (bleed the coolant too) refit cam cover, intake pipe and power steering belt. Took the opportunity to fit the new alternator belt I got with the car as it had an annoying little squeak. Took some pics but nothing to exciting.
  23. So far it's just been the crank pulley bolt tbh. But the brand new hondabond gasket sealer I bought decided to burst at the bottom and spill out might contact te seller on eBay about that! The inlet manifold is the fiddly bit, there's a few vac hoses, clips, sensors etc that I need to try remember where they go, and the fact that access to most of the bolts underneath is crap. Going to be bricking it when it comes to starting it.... Just hope there's no leaks or smoke. Thanks for the encouragement tho guys!
  24. Update... Rain stopped play on Sunday so had to bring in the parts inside for degreasing and cleaning. Had a good sesh this morning, got the cams in with all the holders and got the torqued down to speck. Got her all timed up,exhaust on and te dizzy. Went to refit the inlet manifold and decided to have a look in the ports, luckily I did, they were covered in oil I had suspected the pcv valve could have been the cause of the oil burning to start with, and this kinda confirms it. Popped along to halfords and bought some intake cleaner as mine had ran out. Also picked up some Bosch super 4 plugs, used them a few times and they had a deal on. So task for later is to clean the inlet up and get it fitted. Then want to check valve clearances before putting the cam cover back on. Slowly getting there.
