gearbox problems

My d14 box has always been random to get into reverse (better when warmed up) and generally a bit notchy. I assumed the synchro (and everything else!) was on the way out. Is it possible the (bound to be cheapo) clutch is not helping as well then? Changed the mtf for castrol didn't seem to make it better or worse, no chunks of transmission fell out either, the old stuff looked fairly clean. :?

It may not be the answer all cases but i have had alot of honda's with gearbox like problems that has ended up being the pressure plate(the fingers on the pressure plate bend or snap off). The clutch plate springs can also let go to. if you have a fluid type clutch check the slave cylinder is not leaking , replace the fliud as these are easy thing to try before pulling the box off .
