thepeopleschamp
Hi, Ive developed a problem with my civic today where the car will not start from ignition. however if i rev above 3000rpm from ignition then it does start fine. i thought it was the battery but it is full. could it possibly be ignition coil or fuses? where are the fuses located just to check? how hard is it to replace the ignition coil if need be? your advice would be appreciated. thepeopleschamp
Ive located the fuse box and the fuses all seem okay. ive found now though that the car will not start even if revved above 3000. only a few times will it start. when the key is turned to position two no lights come up. if it is slightly turned to three an d then back they do. i end up with the battery and engine oil light staying lit. when i start the car then lights go away but rev meter goes up and immediately comes down. very bizarre. the movement from two and three doesnt seem right seems like it is a bit loose and cutting off. if i move key beyond three it makes funny grinding noise. civicturbo79
Sound to me like the have a earthing problem , Check all the engine to body earths( make sure the cable are not broken ) and the battery connections (see if the are clean ) . The grinding is you engauging the starter motor when the engine is already running (dont do that unless you want to make more work for yourself) Or is could be a faulty ignition barrel , But i would start with the earths as i have seen that on m civic's a few times Rich,

johngreen537
I'd say fuel pressure mate. As in, when you turn the key to postition II, not starting, can you here the fuel pump priming? Sounds like a low humm for 2 seconds or so? If it's not priming properly, it will die if you don't have your foot on pedal. But putting your foot on pedal tells the ECu to push more fuel in....I'd try changing the fuel filter before worrying about fuel pump though
thepeopleschamp
i can hear the humm noise. ive had it recovered to a mechanic and he says it is either the ignition barrel or the black box beind the ignition barrel. hope its not the ignition barrel as it turn out to be costly if i have to replace the locks and keys. if it does turn out to be this then im just going down the cheap route and turning off the immobiliser so any key can start the car.
