lacos
hi can anyone help me when i brake hard or at low speed the pedal will go all the way to the stop then there is a nasty grinding noise and the pedal kicks back hard have checked pads etc and there very healthy someone told me it might be the master cylinder but that doesn't explain the grinding which is coming from the front ,i have a 99 mb6 vti there is no fault showing with the abs all help appreciated
-AL-
prob a silly question but have u checked the brake fluid?
jalesi2001
And have you checked the inner pads? Or just the outer pads?
civicturbo79
The Kick back of the pedal and the grinding sound is the a.b.s pump. This is what happens when the wheels lock up, The pedal Hitting the floor is the pump releasing the pressure to the brakes to release the locked up wheel and the pulsing on the pedal is the abs pump puting the pressure on and off many times a second and the noise is just the noise the pump makes when doing this . if this is happening at low speeds you have a pump fault or a sensor problem . Have you got an a.b.s light on ? Rich.
lacos
all the pads are fine no abs light on fluid is ok too , the pedal kickback is very strong
civicturbo79
Thats how it is . you wait till you get it in the slow i have about binned mine 3-4 times as the pedal fits the floor and the brakes just do not work . its trying so had not to lock the wheels up you just end up with no brakes at low speed . You have a A.B.S Fault im 100% sure of it from what you have said . i would look to see if someone has disconnected the bulb the the speedo cluster. have a look in the how to do section i think you can get the fault codes of the a.b.s ecu like you can the engine ecu. lacos
abs light comes on as it should with the ignition on then goes out , there is no fault codes present as with the grinding ti sounds as if it is coming from the drivers side front disc
civicturbo79
Could be the disc's if they are really badly warped.take the wheels off and have a look to see if there are any hot spots on the disc's .Rich.
lacos
cheers rich will do that tomorrow , think you may be right as there is some in balance at the front , but if it is the abs pump is secondhand ok as their bloody expensive new
civicturbo79
If it was the pump i would go second hand . i have one if you need it . Rich.
