Guest vtecfreek01
hey guys...just wondering, what should a vti achieve fuel wise? 30 quid is lasting me around 170 - 180ish miles...seems kinda steep! mixing steady driving with odd bits of irratic use of vtec! theres not fuel smells, car idles fine now thermostat has been replaced, doesnt smoke...drinks a tad bit of oil, but they all do!would a replacement fuel filter sort this out? theres nothing in the service history of this being done and the car is now on 117k!any advise here guys? civicturbo79
Thats good i get around 200-220 miles to a full tank £46 . At the end of the day its a high reving engine and will not give you the mpg of 1.2 fiesta Rich.
tontvti
I get like 300miles for £50 if i baby it most of the time.If I have to drive to work its 300miles a week..... it kinda gets expensive. But this is still the most economical car I've owned Have you ever cruised at 7000rpm in 3rd waiting for a gap to overtake, you can actual watch the fuel gauge dropping!!!Rich, you must have a heravy right foot
Guest vtecfreek01
no no...lol, well i wasnt expecting the fuel economy of a fiesta but i was expecting at least 35 - 38 mpg below vtec, lol...b16's seem to manage that, f**k even k20 lumps do! is it because of this dual runner inlet, cuz vtec is engaged at 4,500 rpm? so surely cruising around that rev range is gonna be a killer!WELL...im happier today knowing that it is a normal thing, i thought something was proper messed up causing this fuel consumption! Im not always on the limit (around town driving) but if im off down the lanes or a good run i do drive the car hard . Rich.

kash
sounds normal mate,I was alarmed like yourself when I first bought it. My previous car an Accord 2.4 was actually BETTER on juice than the VTI.But hey can you beat the sound of VTEC at 7000 revs Oh yeah
Guest vtecfreek01
yeah i find it very similar to a rover vi i owned a few years back! That was equally bad! but as you said...nothing at all beats the sound of vtec @ 7,000 rpm. I had some chap in a new civic sport, passed him in 3rd, saw that he had his window down slightly so i chimed in vtec perfectly...lol, when i reached my destination the chap stopped along with me, came over and asked...why doesnt my car sound like that? i did point him in the direction of fitting an induction kit...but he looked slightly worried for some reason! Fitting my MG ARB next weekend so i'll be sebastien loab'in it in vtec non stop!

I'm trying to talk the GF into getting a vtec when she sells her colt. Im on my first Vtec and love it
