Idemann
Hi all,When I bought my car 3 years ago the bulbs from the ABS & SRS lamps were missing. At the time my local Honda garage told me the bulbs were not available seperately and that I would have to purchase the circuitboard for around £150. Having never had either ABS or SRS in any of my previous cars I decided that I would take the risk and haven't done much about it until now. This weekend I fitted the new cluster I purchased from Tom in Cardiff, thanks mate, and I finally got some fault codes to work with. The DTC showed 9-2,7-2,9-2 and stopped. Faulty SRS power supply and internal SRS unit error. Probably new SRS unit I was thinking. I didn't do any more on sunday as I had to take mother out for dinner .Tonight when I got home I decided to clear DTC and take her out for a spin to make sure I got the same errors before looking further into parts. The DTC cleared first attempt but after a vigourous drive, and a trip to McD's the light is still not back on.Does this mean I'm in the clear for now?The light comes on for 6 seconds and goes out when I turn on the ign so this means its fully operational, correct? The light could have come on at any time in the last 3 years (battery off and/or flat a few times) and I think that as the DTC didn't repeat this means it was an intermitent fault. Or do you think that because i got the 7-2 (internal fault, replace SRS unit) in the original DTC I should change the unit anyway?
jalesi2001
Nah mate, dont change the unit if the light has gone out, the SRS unit does its pre-check when you start the car, thats why it stays on for about 5-6 secs, thats normal. However, for it (and most faults with SRS, ABS, engine, etc etc) the fault has to cycle 2-3 times before the control unit will register a fault. If this happens once, then doesn't happen again, it becomes a temporary fault, but if it happens all the time, it becomes a permenant fault. (this applies to newer Hondas really, but ours works on the same kind of principles!)SO, if the light isn't coming back on mate, then you should be fine, the system is checking itself everytime you start the car, and if it checks fine, then its all working!! (in theory...!!)
Idemann
Thanks Adam,That's what I thought but it's nice to hear it from someone who knows what they're talking about.I'll keep my fingers crossed and see how it goes for now, if the lights comes back on later I'll think again. Just the ABS to fix now
