MC2 Aerodeck Euro look Project

Hi ,

I started this thread as my newby/say hi thread had started to turn into a projects page.

Anyhow. My MC2 Aerodeck was in need of an update. I bought it to get my bike in the back of and it replaced my Mk2 CRX Vti (which i loved).

I ran it as is for a while and decided to get rid of a little of the 'old man' look that any estate car seems to posses!

This is what i started with...

I bought it from a trader in Manchester and it looked pretty clean to be honest. It was only once i got it home i found that it was a little grubby inside and had been covered in that god awful dash shine silicone spray!

After a strip and clean it looked much better!

I took all the arch liners off too and cleaned everthing i could find!

The drivers seat was worn so i bought a passenger one (i figured it would be in better condition than any drivers one i could find) from a guy in Scotland who was breaking one. I then pain staikinly striped both seats and set about replacing the covers.

I re fitted the interior, gave it a service, fitted a blower resistor and stuck 2 new tyres on the front.

And thats how it stayed for the best part of i think, 2 years!

Its cost me nothing and caused me not 1 problem in those 2 years and after considering a swap for a Saab 95 Aero 2.0 Turbo, i decided to give the old girl an update. ;)

I originaly wanted to go down the import route but was unable to source any parts for the 'deck so that was the end of that idea. I've always been a fan of the Euro style adapted by VW's and although i'm not too keen on VWs i fancied trying to make it work on the deck.

I started by having the wheels painted Black and lowering it slightly.

I then de chromed the front grille surround and tailgate trim, removed all the badges from the tailgate and painted the 'H' Black. Not sure why but i love the rear of this car? I like the chrome 'H' on the front so i'm gonna leave that. It breaks up the otherwide plain front end for me and the 'H' badge for me is something to be proud of. Especially on this model of Civic! :D

I like the inside of the headlights painted Black but didn't fancy messing about trying to get the lenses off so i opted instead for a fly eyes kit. (sticky sheet of plastic with holes in that looks like a speaker grille). Really pleased with the look although it makes me leave my headlights switched off for as long as possible now!

I've since fitted German plate surrounds and had pressed German plates made up but with the UK font to prevent me from getting my collor felt with a bit of luck! I'll get some pics up shortly.

I've also been messing with various German bumper stickers so i'll get some pictures of those too once i settle on which ones to leave on.

Ordered a bonnet Bra but had to have it specially made in Germany for the MC2 as they did not list it!

Should arrive tomorrow i'm told so fingeers crossed.

Looking for smoke side repeaters and wind deflectors now guys.

That looks really cool, I'd be interested in the Fly eyes for mine, looks smart. As a fellow biker I love the size of these cars, perfect for getting the whip into!

Here is a link to wind deflectors, I have them on mine front and rear and they are a treat :)

Cheers Guys,

Glad you like my efforts so far.

I'm really funny about aftermarket wheels. Its so easy to get it wrong! I tend to stick to the original ones or source ones from a different model. I did fancy getting the BBS deep dish split rims that the VW guys like but they all seem to be 4x100. I did also fancy the Ronal Turbos but wasn't sure wether they would look right.

Ideally i'd like to get the steels used as spare wheels on the 'deck banded and left in primer but i'd have to source another 3!

Going lower would also be great but i can't as i use the car more or less daily and need access to cycle tracks etc.

The misses also complains about it being too low and when we go out with parents etc they have trouble getting out! :D

The postman turned up on Friday and guess what he brought?

No, not Holly Willoughby but a fresh from the production line Bonnet Bra :D

Photo0460.jpg

It was a bit fiddly to fit at first but now all the straps are set to legnth it can be fitted in about 2 mins and removed in less than 1. Good job really as you can't leave it on for for than 7 days and it gets absolutly soaked when it rains!

The only real problem i had was that they had forgotten to cut out a space for the bonnet latch so it wouldn't close!

A Stanley knife soon sorted that out! I also need to replace some of the elastic straps as they are made from White elastic and you can see it throught the grille.

What do you think?

I bought it from a company called autobra suprisingly enough. I think they have a few different subsidaries of the company and the bra one just so happens to be one of them.

They deal direct with the suppliers in Germany. It is a uro look product after all. They also make full front covers too but that is more for show pony cars i think.

I'll try to upload a bigger pic but for some reason all my photobucket uploads come out in that size?
