Better for hard-pushed race engines with turbo or nitrous. A colder plug has a shorter electrode which reduces the chance of detonation & is better for heat transfer but the short electrode can get dirty easier & it can cause starting difficulties from cold - some old race engines had two sets of plugs for starting & getting the engine warm & then another set for race conditions. A warm plug suits pootling about town a lot near idle engine speeds, if this is your typical drive, it's prob best to stick to standard.
