knightmaric
The title sounds extremely desperate ahaWell i'm having yet another issue with my car.Potentially fixed the leak so that should be ok but something new has come up.I am hearing a creaking/moaning noise coming from the front driver's side. When I removed the wheel the other day the top part of the plate behind the disk was stupidly felixble.I mean if I had a set of pliars I could have pulled it off as it was bending all over.I managed to do what I could but I can't pinpoint of that's the source of the noise or not. Also my engine revs and speed seem to be out compared to say 1 month ago. When I was in 3rd and at 30mph, the revs would sit at 3krpm.Now in 3rd and at 3omph, the revs sit at 3.5krpm.Is this being caused by my clutch or something else?I have been noticing a slight dip in performance since this has been happening.Sorry to put this in the lounge but since I have a day off tomorrow, if I can get an answer i'll fix what I can. Thanks very much in advance guys.Gaz. WilkesyMB6
I had a moaning type noise for about a year and it was my ball joint. If you do a search i did put a vid up of it, so may be worth watching to see if thats the same noise? As for the revs it could be due to the weather, being on choke or it could be a sensor somewhere maybe o2? knightmaric
Thanks for that Wilkesy! As long as it's dry tomorrow i'll get me and my dad to have a look at her and find out if it is the ball joint.Since I prefer to do everything myself, any advise on tackling the ball joint? WilkesyMB6
What i did was call the garage and book it in lol, i was going to try to do it but apparently they need to be pressed in. Im not sure how true that is though.
Didjeridave
naa, hammer & a bit of wood. Just make sure it's going in square. It's an arse to get the thing in or out using a press anyway as the top of the knuckle is in the way.
knightmaric
Just watched a youtube guide and it does seem a like a fair bit of work. How much did it cost you for the ball joint and have it fitted? The revs and power issues have literally come on over the last few days.It couldn't have something to do with the injector cleaner I put in my petrol last week could it?If so that's going to really p**s me off xD@Dave.How long do you think it'll take to do?I haven't got all the "correct" tools like an impact hammer etc, but I can certainly make do. Didjeridave
first time go at it I'd give yourself 4-5 hours. Balljoints we're £30 from my local meccy/factors, don't know about fitment cost though. Probably only a couple of hours for someone that's done it a few times. A standard socket set should be enough as long as the grub screws on the discs are free enough, but that's really helped by an impact driver, as you say.The old joints take some serious smacking to get out but they will come; perseverence & faith definitely required! WilkesyMB6
I payed £91 I think for it to be done. It would have been cheaper if I supplied my own but I forgot and just wanted it sorted. I think they charged 45 for the joint and I had seen them for 30 on ebay etc.
knightmaric
Hmm i'll try and give it a go myself if I can get a few days off ahaWhat's weird is the fact that when I let my foot off the accelerator or the brake, the noise is there when the wheel is rotating. When cornering slowly it's sometimes not there although I will then get a clicking sound from my right side CV.I'm not too sure if it's the joint on it's way out or if the mechanics that did my CV boot didn't fit it properly. It wouldn't surprise me tbh.
