harVTEC
Alright everyone,As title states, is there an average amount of thou that is taken off a cylinder head when you get it skimmed? My headgasket has gone and will be getting my head skimmed when I do it. I don't want too much to be skimmed off as it will only lead to more problems, higher compression, higher stress on engine internals etc.I'm guessing if your headgasket is well gone you'd probably have a more warped head than you would if it was blowing very slightly? Please correct me if I'm wrong.Just want a rough figure of thou that I should be taking off so I can price the job up (the company prices by the amount that's skimmed)Thanks in advance.harVTEC
noodels
depends of the condition and damadge tbh they will check ammont of distorsion b4 machining to see if its salvageable prob 3-4 thou for a clean up job but if there is damadge maybe more
Bootit112
the amount they will skim the head depends on how bowed or uneven the face of the head is, basically however much it needs to be straight. obviously this can differ if you wanted a specific amount skimmed i.e 10 thou. noodels
just to add this amount they will skim the head depends on how distorted the face of the head is, basically however much it needs to be straight. obviously this can differ if you wanted a specific amount skimmed to raise CR
