stoocake
Cheers mate, been ill and busy as f**k so haven't had time to go on any car forums for weeks now. To be brutally honest, I'm losing a lot of interest, fast...not in the car, but in driving in general. I spend all this time (and money) on the car, but EVERY SINGLE TIME I get in it, I get angry about being stuck behind some plank doing 27.3mph on a 40 zone, or up my a*s doing 40 in a 30 zone, or failing to see the lights turn green, or not taking a perfectly acceptable gap at a roundabout, or having to "pull away twice" when leaving a junction because Mr Vauxhall in front has taken 20 seconds to change from 1st gear to 2nd gear. I drove to Walsall on Friday to have my exhaust sorted - took an afternoon off work for it, left at 12:30, didn't arrive in Walsall until 3pm (should be 1 hour) by which time it was too late for them to start the work. ...went back up Sunday and the guy refused to do it because the cat is only 1.75" (OEM Honda) and the exhaust is 2.5" - while the car was up on the ramps I saw the state of the exhaust. I paid over £300 for something I could have made better using a wardrobe door and a bit of toilet roll. EVERYTIME someone else works on the car they f**k it up, EVERYTIME I drive it someone else f**ks the journey up.......might pack it in....
tontvti
A project is supposed to have bad times and good times, that's what makes it so worthwhile lol.Keep at it!!!You can get a 2.5inch high flow universal 200 cell cat from Exhausts UK on ebay for £90 delivered, I used the mongoose decat for the flanges. It should pass emissionshttp://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae28 ... 1259958723
stoocake
That's not the problem mate, the issue with the exhaust is that I asked for the pipe to be interchangeable with the cat, but they haven't cut the pipe. There's no "decat" although they insist there is, as their definition of a decat is "no cat". All I've got is 1 pipe from manifold to tailpipe. If I ever want to remove that exhaust, lower wishbones has to come off too. He wouldnt cut the pipe and weld flanges on as 1) they don't stock flanges of that type and 2) he didn't know how long the cat would be. I'm happy with the car, but I can't stand driving it anywhere. I want to kill someone every time I do. I'm not an angry person but I get seriously wound up so quickly on the roads. I'll see what Performance Autoworks say next week, but if it's not good news with the MOT and the exhaust, then the car is getting broken for parts and I'm going to buy a 3 cylinder diesel or something. m4rkvti-s
Don't give up man we all have s**t days! Up to you though as it does cost alot of money to mod a car and 80% of the time you justify the cost by the passion for it! So, when you lose that passion its hard to justify the money i suppose. If you do break the car how much would you want for the passenger side front wing? stoocake
Thanks man, a bit of support might be all I need. Just lost faith in the whole car thing, paid £190 to tax it last week, and I can't remember the last time I had an even slightly enjoyable drive on the public road. If I do break it, the wing is yours and I'll get prices together then. We'll see how things go at the MOT next week I guess.
crony
hey man good luck with the car, it's not the best base for tunning but I really like your enthusiasm think about the exhaust, 2.5'' might be too much, I advice rather 2.25. think also about giving her more air to breathe, I mean maybe simota tube like this one http://www.simota.com/main.htm?pid=23&F ... rod_ID=275 or an airbox http://www.swistak.pl/a3406519,FILTR-ST ... -LPG.html# , honda engines are very sensitive to this kind of change and u should notice the differnece immidiatelly obviously u have to make a way for cold air from fender (air duct) to the filter. another thing is that u should keep in mind your safety, so put some metal inside I mean if not the safety cage, at least a few bars c-pillar, roller bar, something like miracle xbar in an EG (i know it;s difficult with MBs but maybe u could do them by yourself )the bars will help u with handling/cornering as well and what about the gearbox? any changes? and how much does weight? I have to know 1"£££$££"!! good luck mate....sorry for english, I'm Polish....
stoocake
The car is now sold mate..project is dead. The car was far too compromised..the more I learned about what a racing car needs, the more I saw how a road car will always be far too compromised to do the job that well. Now I'm thinking about getting into single seat racing in a purpose built car.(And your English is better than most people in the UK seem to be able to speak )
GB.
I always admire people who do it different,I really like some of the mods you did,on the handling side did that front underside tie bar make much difference (on road I mean),the track really does show up a cars shortcomings(I do a lot of bike trackdays). You say the bottom front tie bar is off a EG,as are the neg front arms?I've been over to powerstation myself,a bit of a trek for me as I'm in Norfolk(I run AST suspension on mine thats the reason I have go there) and I like the way they don't bulls**t and tell it straight,"It's a Honda, leave the engine alone, just sort out the handling" springs to mind
sparco
Hi, I just saw the front reinforcement bar (lower bar), and I would like to know exactly where you attached, because I bought mine but neither I nor the mechanic found the the place to hold. As shown in the photo appears to be on the triangles of the suspension but would prefer your confirmation.thanks
stoocake
The front lower strut brace was attached to the inboard ends of the lower wishbones - 10 minutes job, get the car in the air, pop the front wishbone bolts out (17mm or 19mm I think) and bolt them back in with the strut brace attached.
