    Are you really splitting yours and selling it when you get back from your trip? 

     

    I drove mine home from the garage yesterday, all clean, great weather, music blasting, and it reminded me how much I love it......just as long as I don't start smoking.

  2. yup - 2 holes.  I looked into getting a rover/MG one when mine was goosed, but they just have the one hole.

     

    Excellent.  Hopefully its a bolt down connector as well.  It does look like that to me from the photos of the two I've found for sale.  I've tried to email the eBay seller but they don't accept questions due to the 'high number of emails they receive'.  That's a new one.

     

    I've also found a local company who repair tanks, radiators etc and use some sort of chemical bonding to coat the inside and outside of them.  I was tempted until they quoted me pretty much the same price to repair my current tank as it costs to buy a new tank.  Still its an option.

    Is the right hand hole where the fuel sender bolts to? 

     

    I see the advert says to check if our tank has two holes.  One for the petrol pump and one for the fuel sensor.  Would this be right for my MB6, or do our cars just have one hole?

    I left the car at the garage yesterday and the tank is rusted at the join as well as bubbling up at the top.  10000rpm has been great as usual about trying to find me a used unit, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm better off with a new unit and not risk another rust issue.

  5. Possibly a sweeping statement earlier on my part, and I know this really isn't the place for anti-Honda feelings lol

     

    I was thinking more specifically engine parts though, like coil packs for example for my Audi were cheaper from Seat as that 1.8T engine appeared in VW, Audi, Seat and Skodas lol

     

    Relevant to me, I needed an aftermarket sump for the Civic and I was quoted £200 for a new sump from Honda. I couldn't find an aftermarket replacement part anywhere else and ended up paying £100 for a used one.  If I needed one for the Audi I could order a brand new one for a VW Polo at less than £50.

     

    I'll def agree that suspension parts for VAG stuff can be dear and pretty unreliable too.  I've been through more CV Joints, bushes, suspension arms and coil springs than I can count lol

  6. Oh dear... :\ Why are you looking for something non jap? Jap is proabably the most reliable cars :lol:

     

    I'd generally agree with you, and maybe I've just bought the wrong Honda this time round.

     

    I've just found replacement parts for Jap stuff so much more expensive in comparison to say German stuff that I've owned. I know that might be a pretty sweeping statement but I guess it might come down to things such as Jap exchange rates and so many parts on German cars being available due to being shared amongst different brands and platforms say on VAG stuff.  Lazy or clever engineering lol

     

    Driving-wise, Jap stuff has almost always been so much better, but it gets harder to justify when I look at what I've spent each month running this car eg Just under £300 in May on four new tyres, £250 in June getting new brake and fuel lines fitted and £130 for 6 months tax, £190 last month on two new shocks fitted, and I've a service due, which I've been putting off for a month just to get a month off spending money on it.  That's £870 in 4 months alone, never mind all the other bits and bobs that I chose to replace over the last 10 or 11 months like new pads/brakes/underseal/thermostat/ABS sensors/sump/oil seals.............  I'm sure I could have done it all cheaper but I had been planning to keep the car a couple of years so wanted better quality parts than eBay specials and budget tyres.  I could lease/finance a new car for less per month, which was what I was trying to get away from doing in the first place lololol

  7. I'm going to give Honda a try later but I'm expecting an arse raping. 

     

    Cheapest I've found for a brand new one is £150 plus shipping.  Dearest I've found was £529.79 from Lings!!

     

    Unfortunately I'm back on to Gumtree and usual classifieds for something newer and non-Jap.

  8. Anyone know where I can get a cheap new replacement petrol tank for an MB6?

     

    I got out of the car over the weekend and smelt the unmistakable smell of petrol so jacked the back of the car up and discovered that I've another petrol leak.  After getting the fuel and brake lines replaced at the start of June I'd just hoped it was related to that and something was loose, but looks like my tank is actually rotten.

     

    I've not had this car a year yet and excluding exhaust and breathing mods I must be around £1,600 now in repair bills, brakes and tyres. I've to leave it in with my mechanic tomorrow to get confirmation but I'm expecting the worst. 

     

    I really can't afford this sh*t :(

  9. Very few cars are going to be fun if you aren't driving them :P 

     

    What sort of big engined cars are you looking at?

     

    I'd be like yourself though and don't drive mine daily. I get public transport to work so only use mine at weekends and the odd evening. Even at that, driving it doesn't bring me much fun these days unless I choose to rag it round some B roads. Its look don't exactly set my pulses racing either and I've lost all interest in modifying it.

     

    When they are 100% though I still think the VTI-S a decent enough car with a bit of performance and a half decent interior. I just wish replacement parts were a bit cheaper ffs.

     

    How about you make a big list of everything that needs done mechanically, sell a modification or two and use the money to pay someone (brother?) mechanic/Jap specialist and get it sorted, then just drive away at it for a few months and see how you get on?

  10. lol Its on its final warning!

     

    One of the mechanics in the garage asked me to let him know if I'm ever selling it as he'd be interested in buying it, but I'd be taking such a hit that I don't know if I could or not.  We'll see if anything else goes wrong with it.

     

    I'm putting my Audi through its MOT next week and as long as it passes its getting put up for sale, hopefully not to finance more repairs on the Civic lol

  11. £192 spent this month on buying and fitting two Kayaba front shocks and a track rod end.

     

    On the plus side, I'm totally surprised at how much better the car handles.

     

    On the other side, if anything else needs replaced on this car in the next 6 months I'm setting it on fire and it can die.

  12. I'm running Uniroyal Rainsport 3s at the moment and think they make a great all weather tyre.  I've been pushing them in the wet and they rarely brake traction. I'm looking forward to seeing how they get on in the winter.

     

    £60something a tyre though
