Ram air intake

You could relocate the rad weld in new lower brackets move it say 4 inches there for you have enough room for a cold air feed from the centre of the car up to the air filter!! Then use bonnet raisers there for the flow to the Rad/cold air feed will be better!!

I like air management topics!!

Just an idea

quite interested in this one too. never really like the idea of my cone filter stuck in a nice toasty corner of the engine bay. but cant decide wahst the best option.

i get fed up with removing wet leaves of my bonnet after doing 80+mph stick a wet leaf on your bumper and see if its still there  every curve of the intake looses velocity by a very high % the straighter the better.length of inlet increases torque or decreases it for drivability

mine has CAI is in the front splitteran advantage point for cold air feed take a look at racing saloon cars  they vent the discs from there also ;) a ram air would work if you stick one up with a big scoop 200-300 mm above bonnet i guess dependent of the parimiters of your ecu  also a point the resonator we talk of is under the wheel arch and impossable to draw engine heat from this area, your better option is to issolate your air intake from engine heat and increase the size thus better combustable air.another point is fuel ratio putting big scoops on will go beond this and will pink at high speed as a weak ratio will be to much and holed pistons burnt valves will be on your rebuild list ;)

So despite that the snorkel that draws air is situated in the engine bay when the air flows through the resonator in the wheel arch it is cooled down, did I understand correctly ?

Why the ram air will work only if I stick a scoop so high above the bonnet ?

D15Z3 works on 21:1 afr in idle so I don't think this afr is dangerous for the motor.

That's what noodels said mate.

I think he may e wrong though ;) Sorry mate :)

If you go ram air on bonnet / windscreen area, you just have to put the scoop / collector in a place where it will catch the air flowing over the car. Usually directly below the windscreen will be fine (that's how the GruppeM on the EP3 works)

As for the aerodynamics of the bmper being designed to flow air over and around the car, you are correct... BUT, once you have a gaping hole in it to collect air with, the air cannot flow around it and will be channeled wherever you put the tube :)
