spudley1988
Howdy chaps. Just a quick enquiry. Had a mate behind me yesterday and said car was throwing out some black smoke. Also fuel consumption has went crap over last 2 weeks. I'm guessing lambda sensor but could anyone confirm this and maybe also suggest anything else if its not lambda. Thanks
wozanosa
I got a code when my lambda sensor went, but crappy fuel is a sign that the lambda is not doing it's job.you getting any codes?
spudley1988
No lights on at all mate. Few things ive been told are air flow metre, lambda and cat failing. I would of thought air flow would have made the car run proper crap so dismissed that. If their is no lights on could it still be lamda at fault or am i better looking towards cat as exhaust is slowly getting louder as well. WilkesyMB6
I dont think they always throw a fault light when they are failing.
KiNK43
I've had a number of lambda faults, and never seen a light. You can disconect the lambda and the engine will run in open loop ( with fault light on obviously) but you could see if the symptoms disapear.could even be something as simple as dirty air filter or old plugs. spudley1988
I'll try disconnecting the lambda sensor this afternoon and seeing if that resolves anything. I'm hoping its just that as the cat etc will cost a fortune and shes not long had crap loads thrown at her after the balljoint snapping patter. spudley1988
Had lambda sensor undone, light was obv on but car didnt seem to run any different. So could be looking at o2 sensor fault.
wozanosa
The engine has to be hot to running on the lambda sensor if u are trying to get it to code unplug and get it warm took 15 to 20 mins for mine to through a code.
spudley1988
As soon as i unplugged it and tapped the throttle the EML came on. Then i had gave it about 45 mins worth of various different driving and car reacted just the same.
KiNK43
Lambda may be ok. If it didn't improve whilst unplugged. Is the car well serviced. Air filter fuel filter plugs dizzy cap rotor etc etc.Lambda fault on these Hondas nor.ally results in hesitation at a certain part of the rev range. So since your not having that problem, maybe look elseware.
