Butcher
The handbrake on my MC1 Aerodeck is a waste of space. I think I read somewhere - possibly on this forum - that it's a common problem. Is there any way of improving it?
Roylewaa
Is their much travel on the lever? You could try adjusting the nut to take up any slack first, that's where I'd start The handbrake does have a rep for being poor at best

KiNK43
Adjusting the cable is first port of call as mentioned above. Tou do this by removing arm rest or whatever behind lever. Then you see the part to adjust. Quite self explanatory!Other than that if the cables are fine and move freely it'll be the calipers. There's a little bearing on the hand brake lever. Water gets under the seal over time and the bearing gets s**t up and corrodes. And the lever can't move its full stroke if at all. Hence no handbrake. So reconditioned calipers are required. Butcher
Handbrake goes pretty far up. If I'm in traffic and stuck on a hill, I'll put it on, and every time the car will roll backwards. I have to pull it as far as I physically can, to the latch notch, when I feel something is going to go pop... It's just an annoyance really. Didn't realise you could adjust the cable from within the car though. I always assumed it was an under the car job, so I'll probably give that a try and see if it helps.
