Colour coded mirrors

Thinking about going down the full colour coding route but wanted to weigh a few things up first.

Are they easy to find in red as opposed to having mine sprayed, if so in electric?

Is it worth it with current crap and inconsiderate drivers on the roads?

How much are they likely to cost?

I'm not a 100% sure they did the colour coded for your model mate, can't recall seeing any MA's that colour with coded mirrors.

Its really easy to colour code them yourself though. And because it's a relatively small part, you'll get away with using rattle cans.

You will need..

Masking tape

Paint (halfords)

Laquer (Halfords)

wet/dry sand paper(halfords) 1000 grit and 1800 grit (always using it wet)

can of plastic primer (halfords)

Can of white or the yellow primer/filler, not sure what primer would be on your civic.

tack cloths

white spirit/ methalated spirits

Just remove them from the car, sand them down lightly with 1000 grit wet dry. Clean them off with white spirit/meths, then use a tack cloth to remove dust etc.

Carefully mask the mirror glass.

spray a light coat of the plastic primer. Allow to dry. Spray another coat, and allow to dry. lightly sand with the 1800 paper. Clean off again and use tack cloth.

Now spray light coats of the white primer/filler, allowing to dry inbetween coats. I'd put about 2 to 3 coats on, then allow to totally dry.

Lightly sand down with the wet/dry 1800

clean off and tack cloth.

spray on light coats of the base coat (colour) Spray light even coats to build it up, allowing to dry inbetween coats.

After around 4 or 5 coats, allow to totally dry. wet dry 1800 very lightly, clean off and tack cloth.

Now spray light even coats of laquer. Should get away with maybe 3 or 4 coats.

Leave to harden for around a week. (Optional) you can very lightly flatten with 2000 grit wet dry (again using it wet) and use a cutting compound to give you a pefect finish. Polish up using normal polish.

Job done! 8-)

Mate you could have both mirrors off in the early morning, prepped, primed and painted before teatime, or at most they would be off the car for 1 day.
