  1. Anyone point me in the right direction to buy new caliper carriers/brackets, or do I need to try my local Honda place? I'd like to replace mine as they are pretty rusted up and I think might be part of the issue.
  2. Only changed the front discs/pads, and yep, wound the callipers right back. We didn't grease the backs of the pads, they seemed to have a thin rubber pad (like, a 1mm thing) which we thought would be the anti-squeal surface. I may disassemble them and copper grease the pads. I'd also like to replace the calliper mounts as they're pretty crusty/rusty (though structurally fine). Seems to brake OK, considering new discs/pads. Also, bled back to front in the correct order, topped up the brake fluid as we were doing it.
  3. So, an interesting evening of mechanical tinkering... First, went for the oil change. All fine, until I come to swap the filter. The new filter I have seems to be the wrong size. Typical. So I left the old one on (thankfully its from October so not too bad). Then transmission fluid. It took a few minutes to identify the refill bolt, but got it figured out and changed it with no issues. Then it was into the brakes. This is where the fun started. First, the screws holding the disc to the hub were pretty knackered. I had to drill one out. Got them off and took calipers and mounts off. Pads were difficult to get out, lots of rust on everything but got it all disassembled. Calipers seemed OK, fitted the new front discs and pads on both sides and reassembled. We were running a bit low on time at this point as things had taken longer than expected. So I made the executive decision to skip the rears for now. So, brake bleeding. Surprisingly that went well too I saw some air come out so I was hopeful. So got everything put back together but I seem to have a problem with the near side front. Looks like the disc is rubbing quite loudly on the pad or something. Its catching as the wheel turns. I was hoping it'd stop after driving a bit but doesn't seem to be the case. Also, my brake pedal is still spongey, so I think the master cylinder is screwed. Its a little better but not much. On the plus side, the gear box feels smother, as does the engine So, not 100% successful, but definitely a learning experience. I'll post a few photos tomorrow. The underside of the car looks to be reasonably OK
  4. I think the black and yellow (fogs) is a good combo!
  5. Just got to remember the order, n/s rear, o/s rear, n/s front, o/s front (and got to remember that near side is passenger side )
  6. *backing away* ... lol.
  7. Another youtube spot, but worth it Anyone else watch Roadkill on the Motor Trends youtube channel? Datsun 240Z (Would love a nice one of these): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcjC00J8FaM
  8. Hehe. No harm in being sociable
  9. So today I'll be doing a few things. I'll be replacing discs and pads, and I'll be bleeding the system. Would it be logical to replace the discs first or should I bleed first? My thinking is the first option, as I'll be winding the callipers back anyway, bleeding off some fluid... Am I thinking about this right?
  10. Vetec2011's mb3 for me Love the others but this has a real nice clean look to it.
  11. I couldn't see anywhere that says you need 200 posts to access the shop. Am I blind?
  12. I've only just been paid, so need to calm it down and get some jobs done I had about 6 parcels arrive at work today, got a few others due this week. Various things like LED bulbs and trim parts. I'm hopefully sorting out brakes and stuff tonight, so the big mechanical things I've been wanting to do. Then it's cam belt...
  13. Yeah, seems obvious but worth saying it My inbuilt OCD would have made me do that anyway lol. I'm going to hold off. I need to figure out how much money I'll have left after all the small things I've bought recently, and the fact I have to renew my VED this week!
  14. Maybe cheap s**te? Just searched around and not seen many favourable forum posts about Alessio's...
  15. So I'm in a bit of a catch 22 situation. I'm talking about new rubber for the front, as I have a slow puncture (needs pumping every couple of weeks). This will cost me around £100 - £120. Then I spot these: For £115 (and are within a 40 minute drive) Description of ad: Can't decide what to do. My head is saying just buy new rubber, my heart is saying "OMG NEW WHEELS!!" lol
  16. Just ticked over 96,400 on my W plate 1.4S MB2. I've owned her since 96K (and I need to do the cam belt )
  17. Looking great Like the alloys, inspiring me with my own MB2.
  18. b****r, lol. I'll check mine shortly. Guess I might be able to change my order when I get there if it's 18"!
  19. Weird. Every shop I look online suggests 15" when using my reg number to find parts, although I'd seen some people say 18". Ah well, I'll see how I get on with a 16"... (Of course, I haven't actually measured mine properly!)
  20. Ordered a 16" bosch aero twin to match the front wipers, which I'll pick up at lunchtime with a few other things from Eurocarparts.
