  1. Yep, that's what I am going to have to do I think, serve me right for trying to do a job I could have blamed the garage for....all the bolts are siting happily in the distributor, smiling at me like they know I deserve it, I just popped to my local hardware shop and bought some pipe rings, connected two together and wrapped them around the cap, its idling like a female dog though. now for a dizzy...., I also picked up a screw removal set, can't hurt to try and dig the blighters out eh?
  2. Euro car parts! I called them and they said it should fit both the Mazda and the Civic, I tried to explain that the hole in the cap is much bigger than the spindle to which it fits, they said that's all they stock and if I want a refund I should return it to them! how am I going to do that? to cap is lolling about in the engine bay waiting for a working one. Last time I dealt with these parts suppliers they sent me a battery that was to small for the brackets to secure it, now I fitted it and found only after this it did not fit, they said I couldn't get my money back as I had fitted it!
  3. Need some advice, because the distributor is next to the engine its going to get hot so using tie sticks will last up to the point the engine gets to temperature, anyone got any idea what I can use as a temporary measure so I can rip an arm off and beat the living daylights out of the first smiling happy soul I see??
  4. Right so that's that totally fooked! I get the part, take apart the cap only to find the bolts have snapped into the bloody distributor! add the that the part they sent is for a Mazda and is too big, absolute desolation...................................................................................................
  5. I used some enamel spray, sanded down the bits and 4 light coats later. Huzzar!
  6. Due to the arrival of a new rotor arm i thought i might check my sparks while warming my STP in a soothing hot bath, you would be unsurprised to learn that one was not as tight as it could have been, i only fitted them about a month ago, they are quite sooty already. When i have the time i will clean them down with the electrical spray i got from hellfrauds. i am delaying the inevitable. To the Deck mobile!!
  7. Bloody windows phone, crappy pile of distended rectum!!!
  8. yeah its 3 mph under according to gps. Took her out Sunday night, took the needle off hit thirty and popped it on, not easy but when i first tried it i was doing 50mph at 30mph so i could have left it but id only be deluding myself!
  9. Yep photobucket is what i am using. i will figure it out, on a side note i snapped two of the retaining screws on the grill trying to get it of for the black look.
  10. Alright? Nice! I begin today with new clocks from the much coveted VTI-s, switched out the Auto indicator and matched the current mileage from my old clocks took 6 hours!, resetting the needle was a pain but I guess that's what GPS apps were invented for, I'm currently 3mph under but for now that's okay as my work route is littered with speed cameras and vans with good for nothing plastic Rozzers munching on a tax funded bacon sarnie watching my 1.6 shaking itself to pieces getting up the worlds steepest hill. Sanded down the REV and Speedo and I have gone back to regular bulbs until I can find some decent Leds that don't flicker, my plan for this is to solder the little b****rs in but I have spent all weekend sorting the clocks out so its on the list to do. Clock, after much raging at the dashboard and several bulb changes I have soldered a wired led into the unit itself, this way there is no jiggling, pretty straight forward, just take the whole unit apart and solder to the terminals, he-presto light! next is the heater controls, sanding down the colostomy bag yellow/ orange to match the speedo and rev counter. I wired in 3 leds under the gear selector but unfortunately when drilling the new holes for the led I hit the underside of the little plastic window scratching the D, I will sort this out, Kind of sick of pulling the dash apart for every little job, that and I want to illuminate the window switches in the centre console, that's on the to do list. Today I should be getting my new fuel pump and distributor cap, also got some STP oil potion, love this stuff, quietens things down a bit in the engine. will let you know how it all goes. I have tried adding pictures but the whole thing freezes when I try and paste a link so I will update when I figure out the complexities of cut and paste.
  11. Now is that the whole dizzy? not replaced one of those is that a mission? I have just ordered a new cap and fuel filter, ooo and some STP oil treatment, dunno why but its only £3.50 so anyway I will take some pic's of the changes when the parts arrive, unless there is a how to I missed? the fuel one I have read numerous times but the disty I have watched on you tube so it'll be a first for me, always nervous about engine maintenance, still parts should be with me Tuesday, is it safe to drive till then? I don't mean like ball of fire into a tree but to the whole engine?
  12. Just been looking over the engine and checked auto box oil, this looks good, clean and red, the grade of oil used was 10/40w and according the cowboy(another story for another time) that did the changes this is the correct grade for it, he looked on euro car parts who of course are renowned for their accuracy and honesty ( yet another story) of course this does not mean it was a good oil but he right grade can be assured, or not? Having just got back from a warming up to check the fluids run, all seems well, I get out and decide to gently move the throttle cable to create the smooth way in which I like to accelerate to the red line, and the whole engine shakes like a Japanese earthquake (too soon?) and the air flowing in seems to stop and then choke a bit, kind of like she's on forty a day..... more to do I think, is the egr valve easily accessible?
  13. Class Info chaps!! will take a butchers hook, whilst looking into this I found numerous solutions across the world wide wait, Possible oil cap loose Spark plugs fault or gapping issue Leads issue air Intake issue fuel filter, a leads been knocked out from anywhere during oil change the EGR needs a clean the air flow sensor is to the heavens or just damned filthy, (I checked this and am I right in thinking its a sealed mini liquorice torpedo shaped thing? on my last car it was a fairly delicate item in its very own little cage, cleaned that with Halis Electrical spray but the civic seems not to have an entry point more of a thermomemter type of reader). Its getting to much or to little of something As those lovely Americans would suggest its a crap shot, or crab not sure but there we are then, I shall don my best Sherlock hat, and away............
  14. Right, I will be quick with my yarn but assistance would be appreciated. I start her up this morning, no issues, driving on a duel carriage way doing 40mph I come to an island slowing down I get to 20mph no traffic I crack on around it but as I put my foot lightly on the loud pedal the revs jump to 4000rpm, but the speed is not there, I find this odd and take her back up the carriageway and return to see if it was a one off and blow me down with a breeze block there it was again, I find a nice layby and sit there pondering the issue, from nowhere the dash lights dim and the revs drop from there usual 750 to 500 then almost a stall before coming back then dropping, I turn all electrics off and the blower and listen to the engine and it sounds like its ok but thrumming intermittently. I had the oil and sparks done a couple of weeks ago and extravagant as it sounds (with fuel prices) I only use the finest V-Power to save adding potions to regular fuel, My Deck is an auto 1.6se, yes an auto, I like it but now I am concerned that by changing the oil I have opened a can of worm like issues, the air filters been done as well and I checked the plugs, there brand new NGK's. so now boffins of the 5! what say you?
  15. See, i told me that you splendid lot would know, i did for a short spell think about using the rover chromed handles but i then decided it would be too disco. So you reckon i should speak to our western cousins eh? I am up for a bit of that. Keep you posted. Thanks
  16. A very good morning to you all, do any of you fine people have any idea if there are any flat door handles that fit the 5? I crave a smooth exterior, any comments would be gratefully received.
