  1. Thought I'd start a project thread on the on the new Civic

Its a Mb4, an auto this time, the Mrs decided she want to learn to drive in an auto, so I set about looking for a decent cheap auto for her, she told me to find something cheap, reliable that wasn't a Honda, Civic, or Accord:)

So naturally I opted for a Civic, much to her bemusement

paid £500, 100k, full service history including a cambelt change a while back

Seems to drive ok, changes gear fine etc

Brakes are questionable questionable, and pulls to the left Abit, rocker gasket has a nasty leak too, all simple stuff to rectify really

Already chucked on a mgzs spoiler I had in the shed, and have a set of alloys to go on

Quick pic of her at the mo

Excellent buy Andy :),  I find the autos a hoot to drive......your wife will soon come round to your way of thinking :):D

  2. It's usually down to worn piston rings, faulty injectors or spark plugs or very high fuel pressure........have a compression test carried out and have the fault rectified before you change the engine oil.

Doing short runs on choke could also be a reason as would lack of servicing.

Hopefully a good engine service will rectify the problem :)

  3. Toyota and Nissan issued recalls yesterday and it now looks like Honda will also be recalling cars.

Apparently, air bags are deploying too violently and rip shards of metal from their housing ?.

Hopefully some of you can add accurate detail.

  4. It's an honest smart looking motor.......but I'd be apt to get a parking ticket doing the 0 - 60mph dash :D....perfect for London eh !

I've been leasing cars through Motability for the last 20 years but came off the scheme because I could no longer justify paying £230pm when I only cover 2,000 miles pa.

Here's the kicker......I have more pride in the Civic than I ever had for those new cars.....probably because I get to tinker about with my new pride and joy.

    Things to do :

fit a new cam belt kit (no history of a replacement)

Change  auto transmission fluid and source a modern stereo system that can play portable digital music.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome :)

  5. This is my first Honda ever and I quite like the way it buzzes round London without effort and returns 30mpg....she looks decent enough and sailed through a fresh MOT....it wasn't due an MOT but thought it best to ensure it was mechanically sound after replacing trailing arms etc.
