  1. Certainly sounds like a high tension electrical fault.....could also be a cam sensor on the blink

It being an intermittent fault means you should start examining basics like the distributor cap and leads for tracking or hairline cracks or signs of water spray

If you do manage to check your car over whilst the car is misfiring it's going to be an awful lot easier.......the leak you spoke of could well be the culprit ?

The possibilities are endless so hopefully somebody with good Honda engine specific knowledge chirps up.....like you mentioned.......may well be a known fault.

Let us know how you go.

  2. I'm unsure where the non keyless control unit/relay is sited (probably sited in one of the front doors ?)

Anyway, your problem is more likely to be a sticking or faulty door lock mechanism.

You could try slamming doors individually whilst a helper keeps trying to lock the car with the key.

    Good luck :)

  3. Tom, it's got a few minor flaws that could easily be addressed by a Detailer but I couldn't be bothered because London cars are always prone to knocks and bumps.....and one of our neighbours parks by ear cry.gif1

Granted, it looks perfect in the image but perfect it ain't......I spent a fair bit on tightening up the undercarriage components but I now have a car that's as good as it can be given it's age and mileage :)

I aim to run this wee auto for 3 years.....least that's the plan.

  4. You know how it goes.....your Check Engine Light illuminates.....you switch it off or have a mechanic do it for you.......it comes on again within a few hundred miles or actually stays on after clearing the troublesome code.....so you fit an affordable universal Lambda sensor only to find you still have problems (for some strange reason Honda's don't get on with cheap universal sensors).

A Honda sensor will cost circa £200 + (silly money to spend on an ageing car).....whilst researching Civics I came across these OE Denso oxygen sensors :

    http://www.micksgarage.com/search.aspx?fffBrand=Denso&fffDepartment=Lambda%20Oxygen%20Sensors&fffMake=honda&fffBasemodel=honda%20civic&fffModelDescription=civic%20mk%20iv%20hatchback%201994%20to%202001&ffftd_car=1.4%20i%20(ma8)&fffBHP=90

I'm not affiliated to the above Company in any way but I will be sourcing a Lambda from 'em if ever needed in the future.
