mackinfella
hi everyone... ok i took the civic for a good long drive today... 95% of my driving is done in a built up town so managed to blow off the cobwebs ha i noticed an engagement at about 4500rpm and a major vtec bang at 6000rpm... does this sound right?? like i said before this is my first vtec and i know different engines have different cross over points etc... is the first engagement an IAB?? what does that mean? ha sorry for the silly questions i must read up on vtec engines and learn more about them thanks

Not a hard limit. It adjusts itself dependant on many factors, TPS, Oil pressure, speed, & more Mine is generally around 4400 rpm for vtec and 6k for IAB. mackinfella
ok now it makes more sense so could the aib be set a bit lower? or is it not generally recommended?
johngreen537
There's no way to 'tune' the IAB mate. You can turn it off though There is a vacuum hose going to the disk looking thing at the passenger side of the inlet manifold.Without the vacuum hose connected the IAB's remain open all the time. You can't disconnect the hose or you will get a fault code flashing on the dash, but if you use a tie wrap, make a loop in the vac hose and block it off (a bit like getting a kink in a hose pipe!) that will majorly reduce the vacuum pressure and leave the IAB's 90% open.Don't think it will give you much of a performance increase unless use raise the VTEC engagement point though.I'd recommend raising the VTEC engagement if you are disabling the IABs..... knight
Or just get a Apexi AFC Nero Vtec controler like i have then you can play around with it?
johngreen537
Does the Nero fiddle with IAB mate?
phil_smeeth
wtf is that? where does it plug in? how does changing when the vtec kicks in affect performance?
