2x original keys and fobs and one RED

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a rough idea how much a new set of car keys and fobs would cost new from honda, and not forgeting the all important red service key? As I only have a cheep replacement key. The car is a 1996 MA8

a previous owner of my car got a replacement fob from Honda, and well it was the best part of £300 just for the fob, I should say getting a lock kit from Honda would set you back over £1000 as it would require, ECU, all the lock's (4 of..), 2 black key which are coded, the red master key to code all the other's, and the fob and receiver.

I dunno but I think a good lock smith's would be able to cut and code another key but it don't know...

IIRC they wont be able to replace a missing red key, it's a one and only key as it's the master key coded to the ECU, the only way to get another red key is to find an ECU with the red key and all of the matching lock's, you can match the ignition lock only, but you would end up with 2 different key's for the car.

what I'd do it is take the ECU out and send it off to have the immobiliser taken off, and then have an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser/remote central locking system fitted..

x2 the red key is coded to the immobiliser, so you'd need a new ecu.

The other thing you could do is find one being broken and see if you can get the ecu and red key from that.

The key I have at the moment does have an imobilizer chip built in, but for now I think I'm going to get a copy made and ill swap the locks and ecu over when I buy a VTi to strip down for the B18C4 engine, and all the other goodies :)

most places now can make new transponder keys from your black key. so not that important to have red key nowadays.

also 20 quid will get you a hawk remote locking module. easy to wire up, and absolutely awesome remote funtionality compared to standard.
