vtec2011
With hybrid box, FD 4.43 and 5th 0.702 - 70mph is around 3100 rpm. Stock gearbox is around 2900rpm. Your 5th gear is too short, what MPG are you getting with it ?Yes it is too short, not sure what the gearbox came from but the code is P9A B000 (I think it's a Y4 gearbox) Unfortunately the original gearbox (P4A B000) is knackered. Not sure what I get on the long run but mixed driving in eco mode, I get an average 40mpg

EmZvr
Let me share some more thoughts I think the transmission shouldn't play a big role in MPG. THe most important part is the motor and aerodynamics. If you stay in vtec (below 3000rpm) and max 60-65 mph (because of wind resistance) economy should be the same no matter what is the gearbox. With long 5th you can stay longer in vtec but with speeds 65mph+ because of the wind resistance, mpg is not omptimal. With shorter 5th gear you decrease the load on the engine, it's easier on hills - no need to downshift and when the car is fully loaded acceleration is less affected.Of course very long or very short 5th is always bad. (For example on D15Z3, 5th gear is horribly loong)

I can just about cope driving at 70 I really liked the long gears on the original gearbox even though it was a bit too long. I didn't have to worry about how I drove because I always get good mpg! I will try and drive between 60-65 mph (spot on 3000rpm) and see what I get
