Rear trailing arm bushes

Hi.  My rear trailing arm bushes are bushed!  Knackered! Kaput!

Getting them is easy and cheap, but I was wondering if anyone else had replaced them and had any tips?

Do they need to be removed and refitted with a hydraulic press?

As I need the car every day (I do 90 miles a day) I was thinking of getting a spare pair of rear arms (anyone got any I could have?) and replacing them on those, then swapping them over.

Thanks for any help.

Remover the brackets that hold the hand brake cable down, undo the rear upper top arm (it will ping out) undo the rear tracking arm that's at the front of the rear trailing arm so the whole trailing arm is hanging on the just the rear lower arm (make sure u mark where the arm was before removing bolts)

Then finaly wedge the arm against something so u can bang the bushes out with a massive hammer ;) the bushes only go out and in one way - u bang them out words going out and inwards towards the car going in!

Simple as that :)

and measure the distance old bushes are in the arm 10 mm i think so as not to distort new fitment of new bush, also there is a top amd bottom of bush, also angle of them is relevent if lowered car adjust to suit.

Standard ones are not too bad ( genuine that is ) generally they last a good 5-7 years :)

Simpo is right though, they are a pain, bout 1-2 hours on a ramp. I wouldn't do them on the floor!

I was thinking that this morning.  Last garage I had take a look, I think they didn't want to do them because it started out as £120, then they said the parts were no longer available except from Honda at £350......

Kept going on about having to replace the whole arm as it wasn't the same as the Rover one as they originally thought.

Needless to say I won't be going back there!
