raymb6
well lads iam confused and frustrated the 3rd gear syncro is gone in my gearbox and its driving me mad I been speaking to few Honda heads over here and most people are telling me to fit an sc4 gearbox out of 1.6 type r civic some are saying fit a 4.4.1 final drive or a 4.7 none of this makes any sense to me basically I want good gearbox with good low range torque but still want long 5th for crusing sont want it screaming its nuts off at 70 whats my best option some fella rekons he has a 4.1 1.6 gearbox out of a 1996 civic with longer 4th and 5th gears fitted but he says it needs reverse gear that my one will fit he talking to the right person I wouldn't know one end of a gear box to the other

raymb6
cheers tom I just spent the last hour reading that thread lol herself has fallen asleep no action for me tonight lol nice read but only problem I have is I haven't time or money to go to the effort or rebuilding my box I need to get one and do a in out and in swap in a day as I rely on my car every day for school run still confused as to which box to use for better power and still have long 5th unless I pick up a second hand box and hope for the best trying to find one that don't crunch over here will be hard as they ring the nuts off there cars

Krzys
cheers tom I just spent the last hour reading that thread lol herself has fallen asleep no action for me tonight lol nice read but only problem I have is I haven't time or money to go to the effort or rebuilding my box I need to get one and do a in out and in swap in a day as I rely on my car every day for school run still confused as to which box to use for better power and still have long 5th unless I pick up a second hand box and hope for the best trying to find one that don't crunch over here will be hard as they ring the nuts off there carsCould buy the second hand box and get it apart for the long 5th gear and put new syncros in while its apart? Leaving you still able to drive about until your ready to swap boxes then you could rebuild the poorly one and sell it working to make some money back? KiNK43
I have an s4c. For the money there a good upgrade. Not as quick up the gears as the s80.Nice compromise for improved acceleration and cruising.Mine is from an em1 vti. So has no lsd although i personally prefer how it handles over the stock Honda lsd. I find the lsd likes to pull in straight line if your on the gas while cornering.Open diff imo corners better in this case.
raymb6
every one sware by the s80 box i cant work out which would be the better one to get
KiNK43
Depends on money mate. S80 gonna sting you around 4-500 quid. S4c or y21 both the same. Gonna cost 150 quid.Be careful who you buy from though.I've had 5 gearboxes on my car before I got a good one that selected all gears and didn't whine or crunch
raymb6
that's the problem over here mate 90% of the Honda boxes and driven to within an inch of its life id have to find someone breaking a teg and drive it hard see what way it changes gear
