  1. I run Crome too ( there's no h). It does the job well and can cope with any further mods you do too.
  2. Sounds like your clutch has failed to me, could just be the release bearing. Either way you'll need to be taking that gearbox off to have a ganders at it.
  3. Lost the slip but nearly 120 bhp at the wheels and just shy of 180 on the torque, remember though that it was only on 5psi. Phil said there's a good days worth of tuning to do but not really worth doing it yet till I get proper control of the boost and sort the oil burning issue. A good boost controller is needed because at the moment all i've got on is a manual screw type jobbie which is a crude way of doing it and has it's drawbacks. As Phil pointed out to me, the reason i've been having trouble getting boost is because the exhaust pressure in the manifold was pushing the wastegate valve open early. So I need to apply some pressure to the top port until it needs to open. This would make it boost earlier too and an electronic controller would keep the boost constant, at the mo it can vary depending on rpm & throttle position. The manual one I have on also has a habit of adjusting itself, it's a good job I set a boost limit cut on the ECU when I programmed Crome. It's saved me a few times already, not nice when it happens as it cuts the ignition till the boost drops so it throws you forward a bit, but relieving that it works and has just saved the motor from possible kaboom. I set this at 10 psi which is just under the MAP sensor threshold of 10.66. Not decided which EBC to get yet, gizmo seem popular (& cheap).
  4. just a quickie. Not a standing start, I was coming off a roundabout, but it demonstrates the smooth pop into 2nd gear on boost at 40 mph @7300rpm (where I set the rev limiter) and the dump valve doesn't need to open on gearchange so it stays on boost. If i'd kept my foot pinned it would hit 3rd at about 77 and 4th at about 105 mph TgPiwk_sDB0
  5. Sorry it's been a while but i've just been enjoying driving her about. I've taken it to Rebel Powerpipes in Barton upon Humber for a new exhaust as I just wasn't happy with the one from elite bodyworx, and rightly so, it was crap for the turbo, but ok for N/A (it's in my garden awaiting an owner, hint hint). It has to be said that the service I got from Deepak at Rebel Powerpipes was exemplary and I can't fault him or his work in any way. A truly positive experience. A few weeks later I had the car to GG motorsport who has moved to the site of Zcars in Aldbrough. There's some dreamy machines go through their doors I can tell you. Anyhoo Phil Lanes gave me a better tune on the rollers Zcars but didn't push it too far cos it was smoking a bit and we agreed that the innards were best left in the block and not on his rollers. Which was courteous I thought. It has been tuned for torque so there isn't a huge gain in HP, but the torque figure is impressive. It works too with it being 4 speed auto because the gears are longer than a 5 speed man. It really pulls out of the corners and uphill too, loaded or not. It was worth the money for the tune and I came away with some good information about my motor and what it needs, which is basically a re-build of the pistons, freshen the valves up and fit an electronic boost controller. I just love this car and when it breaks i'll do all that, but for now I just love caning it here and there. It starts every morning n gets me to work and as long as it keeps doing that, it'll keep doing that. Meanwhile i'll source a box of goodies.
  6. No they wont fit unless specifically stated for an MB or MC model, some look very similar but are far from usable. I fell foul of this when I got some from germany but they had put the wrong model code on the ad. They got sent back. Haven't found one since.

    Hhhm???

Could be all the above, and it could be the metal slash plate that sits behind the discs bent or corroded. It happened to mine, it just fell off after rattling for a while.
  8. When you checked the circuit did you spin the wheel slowly to see it working as it passes the hub marks. There should be a fluctuation in signal, if there isn't then it's dead.I think they are magnetized and do lose polarity eventually. They are easy enough to replace but the bolts and fittings do get very rusty, I had to get a new rear for mine last year and cost me well over £200 fitted. But then how much is a life worth? I paid and was thankful as I needed it on the way home due to some twonk on a bike on his phone. It is odd that 2 have gone together though.
  9. There might be a difference in length but the run of it will be the same. Be careful with the cat bolts if you are going to chop the nuts off with an oxygen/acetylene torch, the bolts are fixed to the cat.
  10. I had the same issue after fitting an oil pressure gauge to mine, on cold start it reads ok but as soon as it's warm it drops on tickover. I Checked by putting a mechanical gauge on and it showed 25-30psi, so i'm not worried. On high revs though it'll go right up beyond 80psi sometimes. It's got to be the sender or wiring and I CBA to fix it so it's been that way for 2 years now. Just for info for everyone, the stock oil light comes on when the oil pressure drops below 2psi! Which would be too late anyway.
  11. hi Jocky, i've only come across the S1LA on D's, mine is still going strong with the turbo. I'd also like to know about the others that you mentioned too, especially if they can take more torque. Of the 1800 members this site has i'm sure there are more than a few people who would also benefit from the info, even at 3% that's still 48 members who either opt for or are forced to drive auto.
  12. Are all the bushings in good nick. If one has crapped out it could be flexing under load so you wouldn't notice under normal driving. Then again it could just be good ol'fashioned torquesteer.
  13. If possible, read the colour code from inside the door-shut on the donor car. Then compare it to your code. They all have it in the same place.
  14. My MC1 has stock Honda mudflaps.

    Shafted!!

Cool. i'll look into that. I wasthinking my only option was cross drilled & grooved 262's or custom shafts & other bits, it's an auto.

    Shafted!!

I need better brakes for my MC1 i'd like to have a go at the 282mm discs & caliper from the MC2 but unsure what parts i'd need to convert. I've heard that i'd need the hubs to go with the MC2 calipers. Question is, will they bolt in or do I need to change anything else. Also, will the MC1 driveshafts fit the MC2 hubs. Anyone?
  17. Already replaced my exhaust with a custom job from Rebel Powerpipes in Barton, a really good experience. Already replaced my intercooler, air filter and some couplings. Got it's first dynotune last week at Zcars/GG motorsport in Aldbrough East Yorks. Now looking for pistons as it showed symptoms of wear. Good tune though & didn't kill it. Chap called Phil Lanes. Want to tidy roof & electrics up this year. Need better brakes.

    abs question

yep. have cable ties on mine holding the daft wire bracket. works a treat.
  19. Round the block! Sounds nice, lets see it on the open road Ooh, so demanding.... would have done more but had to hit the M62 10 mins after the clip. Don't worry you'll be sick of seeing the thing before you know it. Got a few more bits to go on yet.

  21. Yep sure has. It was worth it to me though, mainly because i'm stubborn but it is now satisfying to say i've got the only one in the world. All the mechanical issues have been sorted and the electrics are good (but untidy in the bay) with no CELs, gear changes are good even on boost at WOT, surprising lack of torque-steer which is nice. It just needs a better tune now and to get rid of a small boost leak but at least i'm driving it every day just as i should. It's still really well behaved on the road and only bares it's teeth past 3000rpm oh and I could do with some better anchors! The road runs out a bit sooner than it used to. Not sure if I could fit the VTI set on. & thanks all for the comments. I'll try to get a vid up soon.
