ive got halfords pro and draper kit, the draper kit worked well for a few years, to make a ratchet last dont use it to undo bolts etc from fully done up, use a bar to crack the tight nuts undone then ratchet to undo. most lifetime warrenties dont cover the moving parts so if u snap a ratchet you wont get a replacement.
  2. Right things have changed (buying a house soonish) and im very disappointed to have to call time on the civic, i wont be able to afford to keep the civic and s13 so the civic will be going for something mega cheap to run Pretty disappointed but gotta grow up sometime!! Ill still keep an eye on the project section though as i do like having a read up of what people are doing EDIT MOD!!!
  3. i see, im used to older systems on other cars with big mechanical pump unit which usually holds a bit of air. Ive not had to delve into the braking system on the civic yet so just seeing whats what from you guys, i guess you can only bleed from the calipers and the bmc then.
  4. out of interest, does the abs unit have a bleed nipple, ive had cars in the past that remain spongey until the abs unit has been bled.
  5. cheers for the comments everyone, vtis kit will hopefully be sprayed up if we get a bit more sunshine, then ill try and get in on at the same time as the wheels, then ill lower it as i imagine the arch gap will be criminal! so many things i want to do but never have the time!
  6. I mentioned picking up some wheels earlier.... anyway here they are.. genuine works, which im pleased about. Im not sure what model they are, i think RSZ. I have a thing for proper japanese wheels so wanted these with the simple 5 spoke design. Anyway, i did a quick test fit..ignore the balloon spec tyres! White on silver doesnt work for me, so i sprayed them up primed colour laquer Work stamped Just waiting to sort out some tyres and these will be going on, with new black internal drive wheel nuts.
  7. Update time, but nothing exciting Took the mb for its mot last weekend which it passed, it needed a bit of a thrashing to get through with the sports cat but i think this is because its only done short journeys recently. Im off on a trip up to leeds then manchester this friday so i decided that i best do the long overdue service and valve clearances. So i sorted a new set of plugs, rocker gasket, oil and filter and got to work. fresh stuff to go on rocker cover off the valves didnt seem too bad after i checked them, the tool that i previously bought did make the job much easier though so i was pleased about that. Next up was to warm the car up ready to drop the oil, so once she was warm i got it up in the air and let it drain out, made a cuppa, then came back to change the oil filter. After looking around I discovered the oil filter was in a pretty silly place as you guys know... Ive never had a car where its so out of the way from the front of the bay, anyway i hit a bit of trouble... i couldnt get the b$%$^£D thing off!! chain wrench wouldnt fit as it was too near the intake manifold bracket and i could only get half a hand on it from above or below because of the bracket. After much swearing etc i was going to smash a screwdriver through it and use that to turn it, only thing was that its tightness concerned me that i could end up with a wrecked filter still stuck on. So i made myself a bit of a glove out of electrical tape... sticky side out, sounds crazy but it worked, it gave me mega grip and man rage got the f*^ker undone! Found out the reason... it was an ADL Blueprint filter with a much larger diameter housing, you can see by this pic ..it doesnt really fit the honda filter box, so it was too close to the mani bracket. So my advice is to make sure you get filters the correct diameter as i managed to wear through the skin on my wrist lol

    16x8 ET30?

this site will help you get an idea, i think its doable but maybe a little more hassle than you'd like http://www.willtheyfit.com/
  9. good to see another silver mb, looking forward to seeing the mods progress.
  10. cheers dude, ive wanted a decent set of components for years, will beef up the rear sounds at some point but keeping it simple and quality. As for progress, wheels have been bought so updates and plenty to do coming soon!
  11. cheers for the heads up on the wheel specs its good to know what'll cram in them arches. Scaffold pole and heat gun for ghetto arch rolling
  12. looking awesome, what offset and width are the xxr wheels?
  13. the best investment you could make is one of these, it may cost £5-6 but you can de glue the whole back end or de sticker a car in 2-3 mins max, stick it in a cordless drill at high speed and it takes it all off in seconds all you have to do is blow the small rubber bits left behind off the paintwork at the end. doesnt damage the paint either but can melt plastics if not careful. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/stripe-graphi ... 19ce7a310a
  14. dental floss! a few metres of dental floss in behind the badges in a sawing motion to get the badges off, it does snap a lot though so thats the reason for the metres of it. Then i used a caramel wheel in a drill to get the sticky off the boot, followed up with a bit of G3 compound. Just have to be careful using a caramel drill on plasics as it can burn through.
  15. thanks for all the comments folks.... time for an update As some of you know, i managed to baggsy a full vti-s kit on ebay, anyway i went and picked it up today. Was a 75 mile trip each way so not too bad. When i got back i split the lips from the bumpers, i then put all the bolts and clips in a 500ml bottle full of coke, hopefully they'll be cleaned up in a few days. skirts rear split up and ready for prep at some point Bumper looks sorry for itself with no splitter Both bumpers are a bit marked but i might sling them up on ebay for cheaps to get them out the way. I also finally got round to getting the rear mudflaps off, the screws were so corroded on i had to break out the angle grinder While i was there i decided to de-badge the rear, 5 badges is waaaay too many in my opinion. despite the last pic shes looking sorry for herself at the moment, filthy bodywork and the finish on the honda wheels is all blistered up so a good wash is imminent.
  16. this is the one i bought, ive not used it yet so cant comment on how well it works but a mate with a dc2 sent me the link originally as a few of the dc2 owners rate it apparently. Took around 2 weeks to arrive from this seller. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10mm-Honda-Ja ... 1c244608ad
  17. haha cheers mate, the coolest thing about that photo was that was the car had just been vinyl wrapped in purple and as me and my mate opened the shutters to move it outside a couple of japanese tourists came in and took a load of photos of it which made all the hard work seem worthwhile.
  18. cheers folks, yea im on sxoc with the same name It is the original stereo and its still working well enough except the display, Im keeping my eyes open for a decent alpine unit with usb facilities for a bit more control over the system. This is my s13... i gave up on a project thread for it many moons ago due to the amount of things ive done to it. Hopefully ill get it out on track and maybe learn to drift in it this year, its around 300bhp at the moment.
  19. Thats pretty much where im at. Just gathering parts for a full service, and then ill do valve clearances at the same time; I ordered a nice tool from the usa to make the job easier Thanks for looking, updates will come soon
  20. while i was doing the speaker install, i noticed a lot of dead leaves in the inner wings, this was the perfect recipe for rust from the inside out, so i got outside and dropped the wheel arch liners... To say there was a bit of muck in there was an understatement And on the floor Excellent compost... just a shame im not a gardener! I decided to leave the mudflaps off... A) because i hate them and because i think they can cause more harm than good. With the fronts off i moved to the rear of the car... now i could tell by the fronts that the wheels hadnt been off in a long long time and the nuts had been over tightened. Unfortunatley for me both the rear locking wheel nuts sheared off leaving this F~#king A$$hole! The end of the nut was stuck in the tool so i drilled the tool out, rather than spend 15 quid on a wheel nut removal tool that may or may not work i decided to nip to the friendly garage near work with the locking wheel nut key, They managed to use the key and impact gun to get both the rear lockers off thankfully and only asked a tenner for it These went in the bin My exhaust has been blowing for a month or so from the middle and the backbox baffles had collapsed, anyway i decided it was time to pick up a replacement so i nabbed a sports cat on ebay, then a few days later a longlife catback system came up for sale which was also a quiet system... exactly what i was looking for. So this morning i went down to my mates workshop and got the mb on the ramp, the old system came off and the new was on... unfortunately i forgot to grab any pics except this one which was in sepia for some reason lol Anyway.. it fitted nicely and sounds almost oem with a slightly deeper tone at certain revs.
  21. Well i decided it might be time to start a project thread, traditionally im quite poor at updating them but ill be trying my best even though my current photo selection is a bit pants So i sold my e36 bmw and went on the hunt for an mb6 as a daily driver to run along with my s13 200sx toy, Japanese cars are what its all about for me so i picked up this little baby. Full honda service history and 1 owner from new with no rust, shes a keeper With no tax disc holder or keyring i decided to get on ebay and find something to buy so i bought these: holder air freshener nice new keyring As always i ended up buying something else while i was on there, a cheekey k+n panel filter I decided this was the best option for cost/performance, so ive fitted the filter and removed the resonator in the front wing. I will be making up a cold air feed for the filter box soon to finish off the intake properly. Next up, i decided that the stereo was a bit tired, so a speaker upgrade and a decent amp were in order. Back on ebay i picked up a top quality genesis profile 4 amplifier, then a nice set of rainbow slx 265 components to go in the front doors So i made up some plywood speaker rings to convert the original holes to accept the bigger 6.5" components I also nipped down to wickes and picked up a couple of rolls of lead flashing to sound deaden the doors. Next up was threading the new wiring... i decided that i didnt want to chop into the original wiring loom so i disconnected the plugs going from the wings to the doors and drilled out the spare pins untill cables could pass through Ring and wiring fitted Luckily the tweeters fitted perfectly in the oem places using the original metal tweeter brackets so that was easy to wire up, while i was at it i mounted the crossovers on the inside of the door card in the recess left by the door handle/arm rest. speakers mounted with enough clearance to the window... i tidied up the excess wire afterwards to avoid snags door cars back on and sitting in their new home, nice and stealthy too Lastly i mounted the amp on the smaller of the splitfold rear seats the speakers sounds excellent and the amp powers them with so much ease, ive wanted a decent quality sounding setup for a long time and i think a little sub would finish it nicely in the future.
  22. my list so far.... ive already got a few bits to get it done so it should be a productive year! replace knackered exhaust service valve clearances finish cold air feed clean the vile engine bay suspension upgrades replace the disgusting wheels that are on there remove the rear mudflaps (fronts are already off but locking wheel nuts sheared and rear wheels couldnt come off in time lol)

    Best tyre

i have falken fk452's on my 200sx and they handle the power from that well, good allrounder for a reasonably priced tyre and predictable when breaking traction in wet or dry conditions. I used to run the avon zz3 on my bmw and found the dry grip good and nicely predicable, the wet grip was a little more snappy than i liked and promoted a bit of understeer despite the rwd setup but still a fairly good tyre. I think i will get a set of toyo t1r's for my mb when its due some tyres as they are the next brand id like to try and have heard good reviews from different folks driving all types of car.
  24. if you want tyres that will stretch nicely and give decent grip i can recommend falken fk452's, on my other car im running a 215/45 on a 9j which is quite subtle and a 245/40 on a 10.5j rim and both went on easily.
  25. i was planning on fitting the same to my vti, a 16x8 et20 with stretch tyres, ill be interested to see how you get on, luckily i know archenemy so get a good deal when it comes to roll the arches. Failing that i might look for some old skool rims and make them fit. getting them in without running excessive camber will be the hardest part but with the right amount of lowering and stretch i think it will look awesome.
