rattle from the exhaust..grrrr!!!

I have an annoying rattle coming from my desks exhaust. It's not there on startup but do a mile or so and as soon as the heat gets through the rattle comes in. Car is quite at tickover and mid revs but just apply a touch of throttle at 30mph and it sounds like bolts in a dustbing being shaked... Its not from the back box as i've waggle that and the system is tight in all the right places. I was wondering if the CAT was falling apart but had that on a Rover once and it was all the time rattle. Sounds just like a loose bit of tin or a bolt rattling. Driving me nuts...!! Care uses no oil or water and is pretty good on the gas to... Did a trip to scotty and back (580+miles each way) and was getting around 46-47mpg av.. :-) Just gott find this damned rattle..!!!

Anyone else suffered similar thing?

:?

heat shield rattle, possibly around the car area or the shield above the mid silencer.

or as you say the cat falling apart on a low mileage car this would be rare

could be something loose at the connections, not saying your exhaust is leaking just check the spring retainers at the front of the cat and other join areas

I had the exact same problem few days ago and as "beastgtir" said it can be heat shield. For me it was on the cat. From one of the corners it had broken off and it was rattling really loud. The noise would disappear sometimes and at other times it would be really loud. I moved it a bit further down out of the way so it doesn't touch the cat. Only other solution would be to take the heat shield off or buy a new cat. That's if the problem is to do with the heat shield.

Thanks guys, pretty certain now its coming from the heath shield. Gave the edge a little ping when it was cold and got the exact noise. I've also seen a few posts from other honda owners who've had same probs. Seems like the shield needs a bit of restorative wonga guess thats not bad for 5 years driving. :)
