nathan123487
i joined here a while ago when i had a civic .... now i am looking to buy another, but long story short i had my license revoked under the new drivers act..today i resat my testnow getting insurance is a nightmare , i am a 25yr old male with 2 years no claims and i got a quote today on a 1.4 civic sport for £2400 from admiral....i managed to get this down to £1761.50 with someone else.... these quotas are with my father as a named driver .... upon adding my brother to the policy who is 3 years younger than me and has a year more no claims and me changing the car to a civic 1.4 s i got it down to £1200... if i say i have had my license for coming up for 4 years my quotes are alot lower than this with my points and no named drivers..... so what do i need to do... what is required of me by law... as technically i have been driving since 2009... however with my license being revoked i did not drive for a year or so until i resat my test.... any ideas on what is the best course of action as it appears that i am being given new driver quotas regardless of my no claims ????? simpo
You need too give them the date when u passed second. That's what I had to do when I lost mine same as u. I paid £1600 for a 1.4 civic

simpo
Don't think it will make much difference how old u are do a quote and just make ur self a year older
hickster
If you had no insurance for more than 12 months this often means many companies regard your no claims as taken back to zero. I had my licence for 3 years before having a first car (student poverty), made no difference still classed as a new driver.I would consider an advanced driving qualification (I know more expense ), then as Tom says call the decent specialist brokers (like Adrian Flux) where you can talk to someone who actually knows the business and will give you good advice for your situation. Absolute honesty and full disclosure is always the best policy, but def get on the phone.
comedywizard
Yeah I used to work for a previously mentioned insurance company many years ago selling policies. They can and will check the insurance records with other companies and police databases, so you will get caught out if you purposely miss anything out or try to bend the truth, so definately best to be honest and open with every question they ask you. Its very interesting as every single question has a risk factor to it and the quote will fluctuate up and down until the final question and will then level out to find the cost based on all your answers, and risks calculated, obviously this varies with each insurance company, thats why prices can vary so much. nathan123487
my no claims has a two years shelf life with admiral and a broker who i have also checked with allows my no claims .... im happy with the 1200 quote i recieved... however i am getting a quote of 770 from quotemehappy.com.... any reason that this is coming back so cheap ?? to me it looks a bit suspect tbh
comedywizard
Yes the 2 year limit on no claims is correct, if you dont use it by 2 years you lose it, although some companies may offer intro bonus. Prices vary with each company, some are better with younger drivers, some are better with certain types of car or vehicle usage, some offer discounts with imports etc.. their criteria's can change and where a company is competitive one month, a few months later they may not offer the same discounts as they change with their markets to attract different customers at different times of the year. Always check when doing online comparisons that all the details are correct as some online quotes use assumptions for certain details and quite often gives good price initially, but when you go to the actual insurer page afterwards and provide more information or correct any details prices often go up. If in doubt, always ring up and speak to someone to confirm. I recently got a great deal from sky insurance who are one of the Civic5 forum traders, they offer discount for being a forum / club member and can offer reduced prices dealing directly with the underwriter. (I dont have any affiliation with them but just recommend them from my own experience) but again they may not be as good for you and your driving history / circumstances, but worth speaking to the advisor and give them a try. philgor
just sorted my renewal out on the deck, and well happy, admiral came in cheapest at 1200ish (was paying 1100 on a 1.6 mb1), paid that in full, fast forward 10months' (still get a year's ncb so laughting with that), my renewal came in at £680ish, informed them of change of address, up to £850, informed them that my mum's insurance went down £100 when she moved house, droped it to about £800, told them that the car would only be used once in a blue moon for going to work (work is .2 mile's away now) and the ace card that i also volunteer and the cleethorpes coast light railway, so the final bill for this year's insurance is around £650 ish

I pay £550 fully comp on an ep3 at 24 years old, Whats your job title on your insurance?Change it to electrical engineer, this makes a big difference. Also when it asks for market value of the vehicle put it at about £500 (this price you enter is irelevent as they tell you that should your vehicle be subject to an complete insurance loss or claim you will be given market value for your vehicle! Where do you park the car? Mine was cheaper to have the car at home on the road than in a locked garage??!! Work that one out!Atb
