Krzys
Compression test would tell you if it's the piston rings. Bit of info here to read http://www.carsdirect.com/car-repair/symptoms-of-fried-piston-rings

VTEye
like the guys were saying sounds like valve stem seals or could be worn valve guides, remove the head and inspect them they will prob be perished if its the stem seals, still a good idea to do a compression test first though, if the readings are low put a teaspoon of oil down the spark plug hole and check the compression again, if theres a good improvement in the readings your rings are friar tucked. Mc2boulton
Just had a read of the thred that Krzys put up and it says that you have power loss when rings are failing we're as my car has no power problems
NIKH25
Yes, you would have power loss if it was rings as you would be losing compression.
