Aw I'm too late to the party to offer suggestions :( Dammit!

Have fun with the Torpedo.  I've had a couple of friends run both a 1.9tdi and a mapped and gassed 1.8T.

Them and the Octavias of the time seem like alot of car for the money these days.

Not too late for suggestions mate! Really needs to be the 130bhp tdi though, a good engine!

I was gonna suggest the Ibiza FR 130 purely because you'd get a newer one within budget and a fresher look.  Something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-SEAT-IBIZA-1-9TDi-FR-3dr-/291004836202?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item43c13d696a

Or a bit of leftfield choice, what about a Yaris TSport?  They might only be 105bhp but they weight less than a ton so they're just as quick to 60 as the Toledo 150, but maybe start to run out of steam if you prefer driving at rapid speeds compared to something with a turbo.

Any idea what sort of mpg you want?

The Octavia VRS can be got at decent money with climate, leather etc and well under budget.  You'd also get at least mid 30s mpg but I'm not sure if that's still too low, or you don't want to drive a Skoda

No. She got divorced for that and that is why she became past tense.

Can't argue with that!

I quite like the look of the Ibiza FR in the early 00's shape like SarahFR on here has got! 8-)

There's always the Fabia vRS too if the badge doesn't bother you, also 130bhp dervs! :)
