skymera
Forgot to say, I still have some of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-XS-F1727SE-Coaxial-Speaker-System/dp/B004I1KE08 Unsure if they'd fit without modding. Some threads say yes, some say no. The speakers are 6.5" across with bolt holes 6" apart, and plenty of them. Total depth is 50mm.
Krzys
From what I've read if you have an MDF spacer of about 10mm that should help it fit and should provide a good base for the speaker too.
skymera
These look like they'll do the job, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-OF-6-5-18MM-ROUND-OVAL-MDF-MOUNTING-STEREO-SPEAKER-SPACER-ADAPTOR-RING-/180792812957?pt=UK_ConElec_SpeakersPASystems_RL&hash=item2a1817659d Pre-cut, pre-drilled and treated. Krzys
Yeah I've looked into those myself before, I'd happily spend £4 to find out if they were any good!

skymera
Well these arrived today. Seemed okay at first. Problem, the hole don't match up. I can get 1 and a bit lined up but the last one and a bit just seems a few mm off.Not too bad, I can just screw into the MDF. But nothing seemed to line up at in in the car? Am I supposed to take the inner bowl out? I still couldn't find anywhere suitable to screw into..In fact the inner diameter seemed way too big... but if it was any smaller I doubt I'd fit the speaker through. Eventually I found a way to get the holes to line up with the speaker which is nice. but please DO tell me if I'm doing anything wrong! I'm just guessing here I'm not sure if the pre-drilled holes are to screw the adapter to the car or the speaker to the adapter...
EmZvr
Hmm, I'm not sure it will work with this MDF piece. You should remove the old inner plastic thing, you don't need it. On the door there are four holes for screws, see if you can drill holes in the MDF to match those on the door. I doubt it but give it a try. Or maybe drill new holes in the door to match the MDF. Here's how it looks on mine, but my MDF is specifically for my car.
skymera
Balls, in that case these generic adapters are no good. I couldn't line anything up Oh well, £4. At least we know, add them to the list of "does not work" Now I see yours, I know what to look for
