Cabin Filter

Does it serve any practical purpose other than keeping crap out of the car and the vents?

I fitted a new filter today but it was the wrong size (strangely the instructions were correct for my car - pictures and everything!)

So, I just squeezed it in anyway. Basically there's some gaps, of a few mm. It won;t foul any sensors, or cause the car to burst into flames or anything?

On the plus side, it does seem to be blowing much better. I'm sure it's quieter too..

There's a good 4mm gap or so at the edges. And I had to bend it over a bit to squeeze the top and bottom in... Completely different to the one that came out. But I'm guessing it's not a big deal.
