I have changed ceiling unit in MB6 with one from another MB6 and it was without problem. I will probably ask my friend with 1.4 Aerodeck and 1.6 factback to give me his ceiling unit to investigate on this topic.

Ceiling unit is interchangeable, same part number for Vti/non-Vti, tested on my car. There is just receiver with quad-schmitt trigger, nothing else.

There is nothing regarding learning the keyfob to car unit in service manual fro MA/MB/MC, only later radio ones fo GD Jazz/Fit, Civic EP, Rover 6xx with radio keyfobs. Ceiling unit has no intelligence, can be swapped from car to car, but the under dash unit and the keyfob is a linked pair. If you check any description on eBay, they will tel you that you have to know how to learn it to the car. You can find the articles regarding Renault, or also old Mercedes IR keyfobs, but it is always HW hacking with changing the address/code. Unfortunately you can't find the same thing in dash unit of MA/MB/MC. I was considering doing a brute-force attack to receiver unit and guess the code of missing keyfob, but it might take a month and there is a high chance of security mechanism to not accept any code after few tries, so...

1) You would have to buy working PAIR of under dash/radio unit and keyfob. 2) In your situation better option. Place the receiver unit to the same place as OEM one. All nesessary cables are there.

It has been a while. I finally forced my self to investigate on IR remotes topic and I should be able to replicate a new working keyfob from number printed on manufacturing label inside of the keyfob (Vti's one button keyfobs and also non-Vti's two button keyfobs). If there is anyone interested after such a long time.

Hello guys, it's been a while, but I'm also considering buying a TE37 and I have same concerns about ET. I don't want to compromise handling too so I am looking for an 15x6,5 inch 4x114.3 PCD and now offset 35 is too much out? Should I search more and try to get at least ET40 or better ET45? I'm plannig to run 195/50 R15 tire. Also I still haven't found an original ET of OEM 5 spoke 15x6 for MB6, somhwere they claim that original ET is 45, but somhere else they say 50 or 55. I can do the math, estimate the difference from OEM, but I have no reliable starting point to count with. Thanks in advice.

I would suggest don't use red key until you know what you are doing, there is a procedure how to use it described in service manual...

Hi guys. Red key probably works only for learn procedure for learning a new key to immobiliser unit. I haven't find any mention about learning a new keyfob to keyless central locking unit in service manual (but there is a procedure how to use red key for immobiliser learn). Anyway, as I've just written in simmilar topic, OEM keyfob system seems to use fixed code (since its infrared, it has very limited range and unidirectional transmit beam, so it is not easy to sniff), so it should be easy to replicate second one, if you have at least one working.

+1 I have a chance to buy spare remote control, but I don't have any manual how the whole security system in MB6 works. Any USER manual for MB6 apreciated, I have only service manual, but there's no explanation how suppose to work, only wiring description/check procedure. On the other hand, I repaired my only one keyfob once, and it seems to use the same signal every transmition, so it shouldn be difficult to replicate one (I should be able to do it, small mictrocontroller with few other componets could do the job).
