Can anyone recommend a thermostat? Supposedly the Circoli ones in Eurocarparts are not very good. And the Genuine Honda ones infinitely more expensive. Any middle ground anywhere? Preferably somewhere I can pick up locally, if possible?

It's interesting that I came across this topic. Been watching my gauge like a hawk today, and had a little read on what a thermostat does (I always assumed the main function was to stop it getting too hot), and I've now concluded that my thermostat is definitely knackered. I even remember the day this started, but assumed at the time it must have always been like that. Good to see thy're cheap to replace anyway. Just hoping they're easy to fit too?

There's a good 4mm gap or so at the edges. And I had to bend it over a bit to squeeze the top and bottom in... Completely different to the one that came out. But I'm guessing it's not a big deal.

Got it from eBay. I'm still questioning if I'm just being an idiot, but there's only two ways it can fit, and it definitely didn't. But like I say, only a little out, so nothing tragic.

On my MC1 it sits about 1/4 to 1/3 up when warm. However, when driving very easy, I've noticed it can drop back down, especially in this weather. Don't know if there's any issues with it, but it is consistent. Give it a good poke, or come to a climb, and it'll come back to its usual position. And it always sits in the same place when warm.

Does it serve any practical purpose other than keeping crap out of the car and the vents? I fitted a new filter today but it was the wrong size (strangely the instructions were correct for my car - pictures and everything!) So, I just squeezed it in anyway. Basically there's some gaps, of a few mm. It won;t foul any sensors, or cause the car to burst into flames or anything? On the plus side, it does seem to be blowing much better. I'm sure it's quieter too..

Mine makes a lot of noise, but I think it blows all the air outside. Very little of it seems to make it into the car

No, it's quite interesting. I'm not sure I'm going to be trying it, but would be interested in seeing how it goes. I'm always a fan of DIY projects like this.

I thought you said this was not going to be complicated. What the *** is ferric chloride? 10/10 for ingenuity and self-sufficiency though.

Definitely miss this on mine, but not sure if I'm ready to start fiddling with electrics again, not after the mental ordeal of attempting the remote central locking.

Thanks for the info. Dexter. The tyres in the pic are my 'summer' tyres which have just came off (looking back I can see the wording is confusing!) The're actually all-season Falkens, and I think they'll be going to visit the little tyre angels in the sky now. The ones I just put on are M&S Uniroyals, which were cheap, but turned out very good in cold temps last year. Not sure about the snow though because last year we had the mildest winter I can remember, but reviews are not especially favourable for snow performance from what I've read. I did look into heavier duty winter tyres, and almost bought myself a pair of Nokians to go on the front, but it was working out expensive.

Put my winter tyres on today and the inside edge of my tyres were worn a little more than expected. See exhibit a. The actual wear rate of the tyres I've been pretty happy with. And if you have a look at exhibit b. (below), you can see that apart from the extreme inside edge, they're worn fairly evenly with maybe 1mm difference from one side of the tyre to the other. Driver side is worn worse, but they're both the same. Like I say, the tyres have lasted well. What I'm really concerned with is grip, particularly in the upcoming icy, snowy winter. The car suffers badly from understeer, and loses traction very easily on the front. Would having wheel alignment done make a big, or even noticeable difference?

I know. I'm a sucker for a bargain too! Would make a good group buy.

Lings got back to me and they have them in stock for £3 or something. If any breakers on here can do them cheaper, let me know. Interesting about bending the rod round, never even thought of that.

The green one aye. At least it is on the drivers door. The passenger door is white I noticed (just to avoid any confusion!).

The bit that attaches the rod to the handle. Where can I get one of these? Or has anyone got any ingenious fixes? I've emailed Lings Honda Parts already, but I thought you guys might know.

Could you feed it through with a coat hanger or pipecleaner or something - being careful not to break any other wires of course? I'm messing around with the central locking at the moment and it's definitely not an easy place to get into. I decided against feeding anything into the door personally. Looked like too much trouble! I should think going door side first would be the way to do it though.

I've ordered now anyway, so we'll soon find out

Can anyone shed any light on what 'effort' is required to fit 6.5" speakers to the front?

If you pull out the coin tray, pocket thing in front of the fuse box, it should have all the fuses listed on the back of there, telling you what they're for. Failing that, could it be a relay under the bonnet? Service manual should tell you where that is.

The central locking? Obviously it should still work if wired up correctly. But I tried disconnecting the wires again and it still worked. Which is a worry! These are the lock and unlock wires (or what I believed to be them!) fed into the door. Surely if these were the correct wires, the central locking would no longer work at all whilst disconnected? I have no idea how to find the correct ones though. I can't even find the central locking unit.

Ignore the above. Got the power wires sorted now. Still not working. So I'm thinking I may have tapped into the wrong wires for the locking. Which might explain why the central locking is still working with the key.
