MalkyT
Hi, I'm running a 1.8 VTi Aerodeck (X reg, 2000) that has done 130,000miles. I have started hearing con-rod bearing noise for the last couple of thousand miles, and am after a thicker than standard oil to quieten the engine down and try and reduce wear as much as possible. I changed my oil to Fuchs Titan 5W-40 at the last change (bought from OPIE) and it made no difference to the noise. I'm trying to avoid a bottom end rebuild as I want to sell the car on soon.Could you recommend a thicker grade of oil for this mileage engine? Thanks,Malcolm
oilman
Going for a thicker oil, such as a 10w-50 is likely to make it run quieter, but it won't be helping with protection, it'll just be masking the problem.

oilman
CFS is one of the top oils on the market and will give much better protection than the GTX
pj46
So i take it the best oil to use is 10w-40 in the MB6 vti-s engine then??when or would you use 20w-50?? Or wouldnt you use!?! Am trying to learn about Oils!!
oilman
HiA 5w-40 is the best option as it will give better cold start protection than a 10w-40. I've never come across a non-vintage Honda where a 20w-50 is a good option.CheersTim

vtec2011
I have bought Castrol Magnet 10w40 part-synthetic. I guess its the same meaning as semi-synthetic right? And I got Honda MTF in my gearbox, good stuff

Grant
So am just about to order a load of parts for the MC. While there is some great info in this thread, I would find it beneficial to know what people are using and what is working for you. Are people sticking with the 5w 40 semi?? Or going fully syn?? I've used the Fuchs 5w 40 fully syn in the track civic which seemed fine.
