some exhausts have this in the kit, i remember my last 4.5" tailpipe on me EG, that came with a silencer bing just like it, it had two holes in the pipe that allowed me to put that in and bolt it in to the pipe, easily removal or input, not a fan of them, i could understand it if it was inside the rear pipe so was hidden but imo i think asthetically it isnt my cup of tea, prefer the pipe unaltered, and yes agree with the boom on the long drive, but i love it, and have some nice tunes to "dull" it out :)

looks like stainless steel to me?.

whats the deal with back pressure on these engines then??? i thaught the idea was to free up the flow to gain power like with 2.5 manifold and exhaust.

now your saying restricting the exhaust is making more power???

im confused.

haha yeah mate thats probably down to replacing the cat with stainless steel pipe, no posh decat or anything....

yeah universal, the only way i can explain it is its like a steel funnel where the pipe section is about 6 inches long and goes inside the backbox so it makes the exhaust a straight thru pipe.

it just wedged in with about 1mm hanging out all round so the holes didnt line up to put a nut and bolt thru, but it aint comin out coz theres no pressure on it.

actually, ive just drawn a pic as an example.

I remember driving from Nottingham to Stoke-on-Trent in my old EK4, had the silencer bung for the Spoon N1 as it was horrible on long runs! I put it in and did the bolt up finger tight, my plan was to tighten it up when I was filling up with fuel a mile away, forgot to do it and ended up firing it out when I booted it off an island on the A50

Oops!

yeah trust me thats not happening with this one, it wont budge, its well and truly wedged. i cant even hammer it all the way in its that tight!!!

tell me about it mate!!! although i do remeber when i had my exhaust fitted I instantly noticed it felt like I lost power, that soon went out the window when i heard the noise it made!!!!

ive come to the conclusion that modifications just lead to more and more and more modifications and unless you do everything it doesnt work.

the only problem I have had so far is I think one of the exhaust springs has gone again, as it has developed a metallic rattle noise like i used to have.... and that was just the bolt ratttling in the absence of the spring.

  • 4 weeks later...

Had to get a new window reg/motor assembly, my window has Dropped all the way down. There's a few teeth missing on the motor. Managed to pick one up from a scrapyard for 40 quid which I thought was pretty steep, but looks like everything is how it should be so fingers crossed it works.
