ok guys i have spoken to several people including a wheel manufacturer, the MD of the company i work for ( heat treatment and welding ) he is a metallurgist and a wheel and tyre specialist who has worked and sold wheels for 25 years he also refurbs wheels

so they basicely said the heat the wheel goes too will not effect the wheel unless its got a high magnesium content which it should not have unless it states it on the wheel very very expensive the wheels design gives it the strenght not the material

the wheel manufacturer and wheel and tyer fella both said the same thing about the fact the wheels do not have spigot location because of using a spacer is the reason. the bolt holes are also large for the bolts so all the load is on the nuts which is not right it should be the spigot and the bolts hold the wheel tight how many times have you had problems getting wheels of some cars when all the nuts are off well that is the way it should be

the wheel specialist said we should get spigot rings and spacers made that are right for the job or wheels that fit with out spacers the on car balance could be out

i was also told to remind any one who powder coats wheels to remove the paint from the back face where it touches the hubs and the bolt holes where the nuts touch i sanded the back face

hope that lot makes sense to people

so now i need a new wheel or wheels correct fitment and spigot rings for my bbs wheels lol

spigot rings and arch rolling next week i think

Has to be said too mate, DC2 wheels, are notoriuosly weak!

I've seen many many DC2 wheels with snapped spokes, cracked lug holes etc.

More than likey because, as your guy rightly said, if you had no spiggot ring on there, the weigh rests unevenly on the 4 bolts, rather than on the strength of the circular shape of the spiggot.

The reason for the spiggot holding all the the strength, even though it's a daft bit of plastic, is due to the circle shape. Simple physics, circular objects have no weak point, unlike squares, which have four :)

No spiggot rings, means all the pressure goes to one corner of the square of bolts, and changes as the wheel goes round. 1 bolt tighter than the rest (even just slightly) and that one will get a little warmer, and warmer, and warmer.... until.......

If you are using it as 'general' road use, you'd have been unlucky for it to happen, but under the higher heat and loads of the track use, I'd say it's inevitable eventually!

Poxy plastic Spiggot rings FTW! We should make this a sticky as a BEWARE in the wheels and tyres section.

i can post a separate one if you want not to sure if that is easier ? but feel free if you want too

i am on the look out for some 15" std wheels now lol need to get some not fans type i know that there just for track a bit rough is ok but straight is important so how much should i pay ??

i will get them powder coated again

i also want one std 15" teg wheel needed will sell the set as has been said no spiggot is reason that that one broke and will be ok for road use and the load was in the one wheel the track was basic 4 corners so they are no use to me now i have 16" for road ( need spigot bush for the 16" too when arches done next week )then again i may weigh them in for scrap :o:cry:
