Dave
Looked like a cracking day out! Wish I'd remembered you were going, I'd would have come over to knockhill to meet up. Would be good to see your car in action, and I'm always looking for an excuse to take pics!!
stoocake
I'm going to try and come up again some time this year actually - it's a long way to go but it's SUCH a good circuit, I think it's worth it. Few wee niggles on the car I want to sort out and when I restore my supply of 'bothered' I'm going to:Rebuild the brakes again - there's an imbalance between the rearsSecure the lexan windows - they were bodged for the sake of quicknessMore wiring to remove from the dashRemove as much weight from the front as I canHigher-spec brake fluid to reduce fadeSome sort of ducting to assist with brake coolingA Cup holder would be nice, seeing as I have no cubby holes any more
stoocake
Apologies for the extreme lack of progress on the car. Been trying to sell a property and had bits of work to do to the girlfriends car so the Civic has taken a back seat (don't worry, it hasn't really, back seats are too much weight for my needs). This weekend should see some angle grinder action, starting with the front door inner skins. Took the driver door off lastnight and I'm surprised at just how heavy it is! Most of the weight is towards the front of the door too, so I expect some of this may be the heated wing mirror. I'll remove it tonight and get some weights. Unfortunately I don't think I have bathroom scales with which to measure the whole door - might be a wee investment this weekend Currently got a big choice to make re making the drivers window a lexan one with sliding hatch. In this weather, it'll be horrible, and it'll make it tricky getting into the car park at work each day when I have to swipe my pass, but in the name of weight I think I can put up with it These stickers are worhth 6bhpAlso a quick shot of my HSDs and adjustable camber arms. Not happy with the angle of the upper wishbone at current ride height, but little can be done about that without changing or modifying the upright so that's something research for the future. I'm going to be compiling detailed diagrams of the suspension geometry so that I can analyse on paper exactly what will happen to the suspension in roll, bump and droop, and I'll document the process as I go (although I don't want to give everything away - this will be a competition car after all). More pics after the weekend!
Dave
Some more cracking progress there stoo, it's gonna be a force to be reckoned with I know they'll add weight, but i'm gonna have to see about getting some "www.civic5.com" stickers made up for it! It would be worth the extra weight to have the bestest M series civic site on the planet (well, the uk anyways ) on the car !!!!
hickster
This is an epic build, you need balls to take an angle grinder to your pride and joy! Have you thought of fabricating a fibreglass sunroof plug or modifying one of the eg/ek carbon ones?Oh and just for you;-http://www.spitfireperformance.co.uk/in ... 39_446_577wallet melting weight saving
stoocake
HOW MUCH FOR A BATTERY!! I was budgeting around £90 for a lightweight one when I eventually change it!Angle grinders are fun I've saved 12 kg from the drivers door alone this weekend, and I'm going to strip the passenger door back as there's another 3kg can come out of that one. I'll get some piccies later of the work - got to put the car back together tonight as I need it in the morning. As for the roof - the plan there is to actually replace the whole panel with either aluminium, or carbon (I'll see how my money is on that day). I'll probably save it until after the roll-cage is in as I won't need the structural ridigity of the roof then and there's plenty of weight that can come out from there. I'd rather do it that way as it'll look neater, better aero and probably more watertight. It sounds like a huge job but it's probably one of the simplest panels on the car so I wouldn't have thought it would be that hard - quite excited about having it done actually. Thanks for the support all.
Dave
I know you can get the carbon roof panels for EG's, so maybe measure one up and see what the differences are. Might be cheaper than getting one made specific for the mb Coming along nicely mate
